What is Danny Green’s race and who are his parents?

Danny Green has been in the NBA sometime now. No one would mistake him for an NBA superstar, but it’s clear he’s one of the rare “three-and-D” role players that are extremely valuable to successful teams that want to get to the next level. It’s not easy to be the player that often guards the other team’s best player night after night on the defensive side, and then on the offensive side, do the difficult work of being relied on to hit a corner three when the ball is eventually swung to them — even if you haven’t dribbled the ball in 5 straight possessions.

Along with players like Bruce Bowen, P.J. Tucker, Trevor Ariza, and Wesley Matthews, it’s clear that Green is one of the preeminent players in this role; having filled his resume with several NBA Finals doing just that.

What is Danny Green’s Race?

Having been around the league for decade and participated in the NBA Playoffs nine of those ten years, I was surprised to see that no one had provided a comprehensive answer to the question of Green’s race. That’s despite the fact that people were obviously searching on it (as seen by the search suggestions of “What is Danny Green’s ethnicity?” and “What is Danny Green’s nationality?“).

We’re not going to get too deeply into the question, but provide an answer. Here’is a photo of Danny Green’s father, Danny Green Sr. taking an interview during Green’s time with the San Antonio Spurs.

From his appearance, the former high school coach is African-American. There’s not much we know about Danny Green’s mother, other than when he was 11, his mother left his father, Daniel Green Sr. That left Danny, his brother Rashad and baby Devonte on their own.  We’re not even sure of Green’s mother’s name, but we were able to locate an image that might give us an idea of Green’s bloodlines. Here’s an alleged photo of Danny Green’s  grandmother we found on Pinterest.

If this is truly an image of Green’s grandmother then by appearance, Danny Green is at least a quarter Caucasian (depending on his mother’s ethnicity) and at least half African American based on his father’s appearance. That would make Danny Green and his siblings bi-racial. We’ll continue working on this to see if we can find any confirmations via old interviews or profiles. Until then if you have more info — please share them in the comments below.
