Going into free agency, it seemed as Kemba Walker was going to re-sign with the Charlotte Hornets seeing as the franchise could offer him the most money thanks to the rules of the Supermax. However, it seems as if the Hornets were uncomfortable paying him the Supermax and low-balled their superstar player. Walker walked to Boston.

As one of the many shocking moves as NBA free agency kicked off, Walker immediate filled the guard void left by Kyrie Irving’s less-shocking departure to the Brooklyn Nets.

Though Kemba isn’t quite as explosive and dazzling as Irving, Walker is no doubt less mercurial and moody, by all accounts, he’s a joy to play with, a great leader.  Here’s Kemba Walker’s Boston Celtics jersey:

Above you can see the customized Kemba Walker #15 Boston Celtics custom replica jersey in Kelly Green (Icon Edition) from store.nba.com – this is before Walker announced he would take #8.

The Boston Celtics are the league’s most iconic franchise. The C’s have the championships and retired jerseys to prove it. In his move to the Celtics, Kemba won’t be able to wear his #15 — that jersey belonged to the great Tom Heinsohn and has been retired for over 50 years. Instead, Kemba chose to wear #8 which many will remember that Antoine Walker famously (or infamously) wore before Kemba.

Kemba’s Impact On and Off Court

With those aforementioned leadership qualities, the presence of Walker will make a world of difference once he joins Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown and steps foot on in Boston Garden.

The diminutive all-star guard agreed to a four-year, $141 million extension with the C’s however that’s all verbal and unofficial as of the post. Kemba cannot be officially introduced by Boston until his contact becomes official on July 6. That said, Walker was already spotted wearing green; decked out in a Celtics sweatshirt as he walked into the Red Auerbach Center in Brighton, Mass. earlier this week.

Prior to signing with the Celtics, Walker played his entire eight-year NBA career in Charlotte. Now he’s set to move on. Let’s Do This, Boston.
