What Golden State’s “Won the West” t-shirts mean and where to get one

Without the services of Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors swept the Portland Trailblazers in four games to advance to their fifth consecutive NBA Finals appearance where they’re looking to win their fourth championship. Some may look deeper into the Warriors’ win and there’s been talk about if the Warriors are better without KD, but let’s be clear the Warriors won the west with the assistance from the entire team.

To Win the West, Warriors Went Back to the Future

Led by a resurgent Stephen Curry that played like the unanimous MVP from a couple years ago and a lighter, rejuvenated Draymond Green whom nearly averaged a triple double in the series, the Warriors won in impressive fashion.

In fact, in that final game four, Golden State got timely triple doubles from both Curry and Green — the first time in NBA history two teammates recorded triple doubles in an NBA Playoff game — to win the Western Conference Finals.

Speaking of “Won the West”, here’s the locker room t-shirts you saw the Warriors wearing after their 119-117 closeout win. Take a look at these official 2019 Golden State Warriors Western Conference Champions Won the West t-Shirts created by Fanatics.

It Was Strength in Numbers Again

Already without Durant and DeMarcus Cousins, the Core Four of Curry, Draymond, Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson had to step up and they did. However, it wasn’t just the Core Four, the Warriors got all nostalgic on us and recalled their “Strength in Numbers” motto. The defending champions got strong and consistent contributions from players role players like Kevon Looney, Alfonzo McKinnie, Jonas Jerebko, Jordan Bell, and Quinn Cook.

Don’t mistake it though, the last five wins required Curry to step up and he answered the bell; looking focused and ready to take on the challenge. In the Portland series, Curry averaged (36.5) and scored the most points ever (146 total) in a four game series sweep. In those four games, Steph averaged 36.5 points, 7.5 assists, 8.3 rebounds, and hitting 26 threes in the series — another record for a four game sweep.

Those numbers along with strong bench support are what made the Warriors Western Conference Champions – not any one individual player.

“We still don’t take anything for granted,” Curry told ESPN. “We understand how hard it is to end at this level. We don’t want to end as long as we can control it.”

Including the game six win over Houston, Curry’s averaged 35.8 points in those five wins. Maybe the Golden State Warriors are better without Durant?  Nah.
