Greece 81: Croatia 78
Vasillis Spanoulis hit a long three at the buzzer to give Greece an exciting victory over Croatia. Marko Popovic hit two free-throws to tie the game at 78, with seven second remaining. Spanoulis, known as Kill Bill because of his fearlessness, took the inbound pass, raced up court, went behind his back, crossed over and hit the three (click here for the video).
Portugal 94: Israel 85
In a rare position of being the favorite coming into the game, Israel couldn’t use that to their benefit as Portugal defeated them 94-85. With the win, Portugal finally got into the win column in the second round. Joao Gomes led Portugal with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals and Francisco Jordão added 20 points. Lior Eliyahu led Israel with 29 points and 11 rebounds.
Spain 81: Russia 69
Jose Calderon led Spain with 17 points and 4 assists, Juan Carlos Navarro added 15, and Pau Gasol put up 13 and 9 rebounds as Spain regained their posture and defeated the previously unbeaten Russian National Team. Andrei Kirilenko scored 21 points despite being in foul trouble throughout the night. Victor Khryapa added 14 and 11 rebounds and Nikita Morgunov scored 14 points.
