One of Nowitzki’s adviser, Holger Geschwindner, told The Associated Press late Saturday night that Nowitzki and owner Mark Cuban have agreed “to get it done.”
Already the team’s all-time leading scorer, Nowitzki has spent his entire 12-year career as a Maverick. With this deal, the 7-0 German will be guaranteed to spend his prime years in Dallas.
Nowitzki averaged 25 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists last season. He also won the the 2007 NBA MVP.
Nowitzki had opted out of the final year of his contract. NBA teams and free agents can agree to deals at any time, but they cannot sign official contracts until Thursday.
