The NBA’s Top-Selling Jerseys for 2004
The NBA’s best-selling jersey in 2004 (from the beginning of the 2003-04 season) was LeBron James a rookie that was taken number one overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. His arrival in Cleveland came with high expectations and the rookie from Akron, Ohio lived up to those lofty expectations; averaging over 20 points, nearly 6 assists and 5 rebounds per game.
| Rank | Player | Team |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | LeBron James | Cleveland Cavaliers |
| 2 | Kobe Bryant | Los Angeles Lakers |
As of the publication of this post, we don’t have access to the full list of players that were in the top ten, but knowing that the Detroit Pistons ended up winning the NBA Championship over the Los Angeles Lakers in shocking 4-1 series, we know that perennial top-selling jersey movers and shakers Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal wee in the top ten. Bryant likely was second to the LeBron, whom was named Rookie of the Year for the 2003-04 season. We also know that Kobe led the league in jersey sales the previous season, so it’s quite likely he was at #2.
Even though the Spurs won the NBA championship the prior season, we know that doesn’t mean much in terms of jersey sales. They’re an unsexy team. Even so, we think that Tim Duncan‘s jersey likely was in the top 15 if not he top ten.
We also know that the 2003-04 season saw Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves named the league’s MVP and at 28 ppg, Tracy McGrady of the Orlando Magic led the league in scoring for the second consecutive season.
In any case, if you know the other players on the list of best selling jerseys from 2003-04 season, please comment below.
