It has been an unusual year in the NBA, but the league has done a great job of ensuring that the 2019/20 campaign concludes. Once the season is complete, the focus will then turn on the 2020 NBA Draft and who the stars of the future will be in the league. Here is a look at the three biggest prospects from the draft and what they are likely to bring to their new teams.
Anthony Edwards
Tipped to be the number one pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Anthony Edwards is the player most basketball fans are excited about seeing next season.
The Georgia Bulldogs shooting guard impressed recruitment scouts last year. Edwards’ versatility is what makes him stand out in the latest class of college players set to embark on their journey to the NBA. Edwards is particularly strong defensively, something which is going to appeal to a lot of teams who need to improve on that side of the ball next season.
It is the Minnesota Timberwolves who have the opening pick in the draft so unless they decide to trade, they will get the first refusal on Edwards.
LaMelo Ball
Illawarra Hawks’ LaMelo Ball was named the NBL Rookie of the Year last season in Australia. He parted ways with the Australian team in order to return to the United States to be part of the 2020 NBA Draft.
LaMelo’s brother Lonzo is already in the NBA with the New Orleans Falcons. The 19-year-old has the potential to be one of the biggest stars in the league in the future accordingly to many pundits.
Ball is renowned for his creativity, passing, and shooting. He recorded consecutive triple-double games for the Hawks last season, with a season-high 32 points coming against Cairns Taipans in an overtime victory. The point guard from California is +300 with Space Casino to be the first overall pick. Those odds suggest it would not be a big surprise if he was the opening player off the board. Regardless, Ball looks to have a promising career ahead of him.
James Wiseman
One of the top centers in the draft class this year is Memphis’ James Wiseman. Measuring at seven feet and one inch, Wiseman is huge in frame.
Wiseman played just three games last season for the Tigers, but his numbers were exceptionally good across those matches. He scored an average of 19.7 points, with a .769 field goal percentage. The talented youngster has been around a number of United States national teams at various age groups so he is a young player that recruiters will have known about for a while.
Wiseman has been linked with the Golden State Warriors who are thought to very keen on the 19-year-old. The Warriors have the second overall pick so if Edwards or Ball are taken first, they will be able to secure the center. There may also be some teams interested in doing a trade with Golden State to land the former Tigers player.
The 2020 NFL Draft takes place on October 16 and will be held at ESPN’s facilities in Bristol, Connecticut.
