Spike Albrecht shows off during Michigan-Florida match

Michigan's Spike Albecht dribbles vs. Florida

I’ve always been a short point guard that didn’t look like I belonged, so it was with great pleasure that I watched backup guard Spike Albrecht, all 5-11 of him, contribute to Michigan’s 79-59 thrashing of the Florida Gators today.

Albrecht, a freshman guard, did it in spectacular fashion. The highlight of his night being a steal off an inbounds pass and fancy layup immediately after fellow freshman Mitch McGary put in his own layup. Check out Spike stepping in front, getting the steal and his trickery shot against Florida’s big men:

And that wasn’t all. Later on, as the Gators tried to pressure Albrecht in the backcourt, he leapt in the air and whipped a baseball pass from three-quarters court to Jon Horford for a dunk  – I’m looking for that gif.

Albrecht would get another steal later on that would lead to an uncontested layup, and then hit a three to the cheers and delight of the his teammates. The last shot all but putting the final nail in the coffin. Albrecht would end the game with three steals and seven points. Michigan moves on to the Final Four against the Florida Gators.
