CSKA Moscow advances to 2009 Final Four, sweeps Partizan Belgrade

  • Tau Ceramica 69-62 Regal Barcelona: Tau was able to overcome 22 turnovers, including 7 by Igor Rakocevic to defeat Barcelona 69-62.  Tau led throughout the game using their 57 FG% to balance out their high turnover total.  Tau was led  by Igor Rakocevic’s 15 points and Pete Mickael’s 11 points and 9 rebounds.  Tiago Splitter also scored 13 points.  Jaka Lakovic led Barcelona with 20 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Tau Ceramica now leads the series 2-1.   • Real Madrid 71-63 Olympiacos: Felipe Reyes was the story for Real Madrid as the 6-9 Spanish forward filled the boxscore in leading Real Madrid over Greek powerhouse Olympiakos.  Reyes finished the game with an overall ranking of 29, which included 19 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists.  Louis Bullock, the former Michigan Wolverine, added 17 points for Real Madrid.  Greek center Ioannis Bourousis led Olympiakos with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, the only player on Tuesday to register a double-double, while former NBA player Josh Childress added 9 points and  6 rebounds.  With the win, Real Madrid now leads the series 2-1.   • Panathinaikos 72-53 Montepaschi Siena: Former NBA guard Vassilis Spanoulis leads four Panathinaikos players in double figures as the Greek club built a huge lead in the second and third quarters in blowing out Montepaschi Siena 72-53 to take a 2-1 series lead. Spanoulis puts in 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Former Maryland star Drew Nicholas had 13 points, Nikola Pekovic 11, and Sarunas Jasikevicius had 10.  Kosta Tsartsaris of Greece added 8 points and 10 rebounds.  Terrell McIntyre, the top scorer in the playoffs with 21.3 points per game, led Montepaschi with 13 points and Henry Domercant added 12 points for Siena.  (discuss/game report)
  • CSKA Moscow advances to Final Four, defeats Partizan Belgrade 67-56 : Led by Euroleague veterans Ramunas Siskauskas of Lithuania (20 points) and Matjaz Smodis of Slovenia (18 points), CSKA Moscow sweeps Partizan 3-0 to become the first club to advance to 2009 Euroleague Final Four.  Siskauskas and Smodis shared Game 3 MVP.  Partizan was led by Novica Velickovic with 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Velickovic didn’t get much help from his Belgrade teammates, whom shot a combined 10-38 from the field, a woeful 26.3%.  Erazem Lorbek added 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists for CSKA.  (discuss/game report)
