NBA Malcontents get another shot in China

With players like Bonzi Wells, Stephon Marbury having already made the jump and now, Allen Iverson potentially moving East to play ball – is the Chinese Basketball Association becoming a receptacle for NBA troublemakers?

(Discuss Allen Iverson’s potential move to China)

Yes, there are other NBA players that have passed through the People’s Republic and done well, but the big name NBA stars that are getting the lion’s share of offers are talented players that no NBA team wants a part of – Bonzi Wells, Stephon Marbury, and Allen Iverson, to name the biggest names.

These NBA players would most certainly prefer to go to Europe, where the money is better and the competition is higher, but the malcontents aren’t receiving any bites. This makes their transition to China a lot easier.

Despite their reputation stateside, the experiences thus far have been successful when the players actually stick around (hear that, Bonzi?). The Chinese fans embrace the former NBA stars and attendance to the games generally skyrocket because of the big name ballers.

In addition to getting back on the court with adoring fans, the off-court possibilities in China are huge for these former NBA stars; marketing and sales have the potential to be gobbled up by millions and millions of fans.

Iverson recently turned down a one-year contract worth $4 million to play with the Foshan Dragons, but according to Yahoo! Sports, the team is still after the 14-year NBA veteran and former MVP.
