Woven Digital weaves Dime Magazine into Uproxx

Dime Magazine bought up by Woven Digital

Recently, I saw a Dime Magazine Facebook post that pointed to an uproxx.com URL and not dimemag.com. I may have noticed the external URL but didn’t think about it until later in the week, I saw that all Dime Magazine posts were all pointing to uproxx.com.

It turns out that Dime Magazine had been acquired by Woven Digital, of whom Uproxx is its largest web property. From the Los Angeles Business Journal:

Online publisher Woven Digital of Culver City has acquired basketball news publication Dime Magazine to help expand the sports division of its biggest web property Uproxx. Chris Mottram, previously with Vox Media’s sports news site SBNation.com, has also been named as Uproxx Sports’ new managing editor. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed though it was mainly a cash deal.

The acquisition of Dime comes from the company’s larger goal of creating a more authoritative voice for sports content online.

It’s not a surprise to see Dime being swallowed up. It’s one of the net’s largest basketball presence. Along with SLAM Magazine, it was one of the few publications that not only covered the NBA, but had street credibility. Due to their reputation, Dime Magazine was able to shoot exclusive covers with NBA superstars like Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony, and LeBron James.

Woven Digital is a network of websites aimed mainly at males that recently raised $18 million in venture funding. In addition to Uproxx and Dime, Woven’s collection of advertisement-supported websites include BroBible and Animal.
