In 2014, NBA fans are being treated to a rematch of the 2013 NBA finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat. For basketball fans who are going to travel into San Antonio to check out the action, there are a number of very nice (and many times historic), hotels to choose from for your stay in town. Be warned; however, that if you are making lodging arrangements close to game day, you might be out of luck for a short term stay. If you are going to stay for several days; however, there are a number of fun activities to enjoy during your stay in San Antonio. The Menger Hotel is a favorite for guests to San Antonio who like to combine a quality stay with a bit of history. The hotel is right next to the hotel and has previous hosted high profile guests such as former President Theodore Roosevelt. hunters who say the former president sometimes makes a guest appearance! The hotel has been updated, and guests are able to enjoy fine antiques, artwork, an awesome courtyard garden, a more than a century old guest registry, and a neoclassical Victorian lobby.

All of the rooms and suites at The Menger feature free, high-speed Wireless Internet, free coffee, room service, connecting rooms and baby cribs (on request), same day laundry and dry cleaning, and if you have to travel with your small pet, the hotel will allow dogs under 25 pounds to stay for $100.

Emily Morgan Hotel

The Emily Morgan Hotel brands itself as the “Official Hotel of the Alamo” and is located next door to the Alamo. The hotel features somewhat luxurious accommodations, all desired amenities, and Aveda skin care. The hotel is also considered to be haunted by avid ghost hunters, but most guests like to stay at the hotel when coming into town to watch the Spurs for the close proximity to the River Walk, a large number of restaurants, La Villita, and the Alamo. The hotel features a heated outdoor pool, in-room spa services, a fitness center, is pet friendly (requires a $50 deposit), and WiFi throughout the hotel.

Hilton Palacio Del Rio

For those who do not speak Spanish, the hotel’s name translates to ‘Palace by the River’ in English. This Hilton hotel is located directly across from the River Walk boat

The hotel was originally built in 1968 to welcome the World Fair and recently underwent a $27 million USD redesign. This is the only hotel in downtown San Antonio at the time of this writing to feature a private balcony for every single room! For those who like a “Texas Feel” to their stays in San Antonio, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is the place for you. The property is a combination of luxury and ranch style and is surrounded by a 27 hole championship golf course and large water playground suitable for guests of all ages.

A bit further from the action downtown at a 20 minute drive, but for those who like to escape the craziness of the crowds when not checking out the basketball games, the Hyatt is one of the favorite destinations for visitors to the area.
