Spanoulis Lifts Olympiacos Over Laboral For The Huge Home Win

Spanoulis, Olympiacos Piraeus - Laboral Kutxa

Vassilis Spanoulis came back to action after missing some time with an injury. That proved to bey a key success factor as Olympiacos demolished Laboral in Athens in a convincing manner with a 40 points differential. The final score was 89-59 in favor of the home side and it all begun with a 14-0 run in the first quarter.

After this Olympiacos cruised to a secure finish dictated by their captain Spanoulis. With this result the reds have ended a four game loosing streak and improved their chances of qualifying to the next round. Results from other games went in their favor as Unicaja lost to Barcelona later in the evening and yesterday Fenerbahce lost at Panathenaikos.

Spanoulis finished the game with 14 points in just 19 minutes of action and Vangelos Mantzaris impressed with an all around performance in which he recorded 5 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. There were no bright spots on the loosing side except for Leo Mainoldi’s 12 points, all of them from distance. Matthew Lojeski led all scorers with 16 points while managing to shoot with 70% accuracy from the floor.

With three rounds left in the Euroleague Top 16 phase Olympiacos will have a tough task to secure a spot for the playoffs. They play their direct opponent Unicaja away from Athens in the next round and face domestic rivals Panathinaikos in their last game at home.

On the other side Laboral Kutxa said goodbye to this year’s Euroleague and will play for pride in their last three games of the season. They will have lots of time to figure out how to bring back Lamar Odom until September.
