Should LeBron win the MVP title no matter the series outcome?

Jerry West was the first and last player to win the finals MVP trophy while being on the losing side. He was also the inaugural winner of the trophy back in 1969 when his Los Angeles Lakers lost the finals to the Boston Celtics led by NBA legend Bill Russell. West averaged 37.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.4 assists while shooting 49% from the floor.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trailing 3 games to 2 in this year’s NBA Finals and find themselves on the brink of elimination by the Golden State Warriors. If LeBron James manages to help his team win the NBA championship, he will undoubtedly win the MVP trophy because he’s averaging 36.6 points, 12.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists till now.

.

Many of the experts ponder about the idea of LeBron James winning the Bill Russell MVP trophy even if his team doesn’t end up to be a champion. Something that last time happened back in the 1969 finals. If you decide to go with the winning team, then you’re left with Stephen Curry who had couple of awful shooting performances in the series and Andre Iguodala who’s the best player for the Warriors yet has left his man score nearly 37 points per contest.
