Rockets Sign Ronnie Brewer

Even after landing the biggest free agent of the 2013 offseason, the Houston Rockets have remained aggressive this summer in securing all the right pieces for the upcoming regular season campaign.

On Monday, the Rockets nabbed another highly-valued free agent – this time on the defensive side of the floor – in 28-year-old veteran Ronnie Brewer. According to SI.com, the two sides agreed to a two-year partially guaranteed contract for an undisclosed dollar amount.

Brewer now joins a stacked group of talented wings in Houston, including James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Francisco Garcia, Omri Casspi and Reggie Williams. However, as a defensive specialist, Brewer should still be able to carve out an niche for himself as a reserve on a team that is obviously focused on improving on the defensive end – considering their acquisition of Dwight Howard earlier this summer.

While Brewer has averaged 8.2 points per game over his seven-year career, his limited playing time in recent years has decreased his offensive production, as he mustered just 3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game with the Knicks and the Thunder last season.

After acquiring Brewer at the trade deadline last season, the Thunder didn’t find much use for him – playing him in just 14 regular season games and one playoff game – but the Rockets should be able to provide him with more court time.
