International basketball fans will want to download and use a printable 2016 Rio Olympics basketball bracket to follow the action later this summer. The Rio basketball schedule will get started with group play on August 6th, 2016.
The top four teams in each group will then advance to the single elimination play for the quarterfinals that gets started on August 17th, 2016. The Bronze and Gold medal games in the Olympics will take place on August 21st, 2016.
No matter what the controls the authorities put in place to help handle Zika and some of the other issues ongoing in Brazil, it is expected that the Olympics schedule will not see any interruptions from what has been published to date. For fans of the U.S. Olympic team, fans are waiting to see which of the NBA All Stars will make the final cuts for the squad that currently sits at 30 players to include LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.
How Do the Remaining Olympic Qualifiers Work
For the final three spots in the 2016 Olympics, FIBA will host three tournaments to determine the teams. These teams are designated as Olympics Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs) and will be held in Turin, Italy; Belgrade, Serbia; and Manila, Philippines. The tournaments will take place between July 4th and July 11th, 2016 prior to the overall Olympics schedule kicking off with basketball being just one of the 28 total sports being competed at the Olympic games.
