Dirk Nowitzki hit a fall-away jumper over Luc Mbah a Moute as the buzzer sounded to lead the Dallas Mavericks over the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime 115-113 Monday night.
In a battle of the current winners of the NBA Players of the week, the 7-0 Nowitzki out dueled rookie Brandon Jennings with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and Dallas’ third straight win.
Jennings started out by missing six of his first seven shots, but got on track and eventually recorded 25 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds, scoring 13 points in a crucial fourth quarter.
The Bucks were down 18 points midway through the third when Bucks’ coach Scott Skiles left Jennings in and subbed in Dan Gadzuric, Mbah a Moute, Ersan Ilyasova, and Luke Ridnour.
The Bucks went on a 26-10 run to end the quarter led by Ridnour’s 9 points, Ilyasova’s 8 points, and Mbah a Moute’s 5 points, bringing the Bucks within two going into the fourth.
But the comeback wasn’t enough to pull off what would have been Milwaukee’s fifth straight win.
The match also saw the old guard versus the new, as the 20-year old Jennings took on the 36-year old Jason Kidd. Kidd just missed out on a triple double by just one point, and ended the game with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and a season high 17 assists.
Turkish born Ilyasova added season highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds while Andrew Bogut of Australia and Mbah a Moute of Cameroon each had 13 for Milwaukee.
