If the recent gesture by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is any indication, we’re not sure how much longer New Orleans will be a football city.
After the New Orleans Pelicans selected Zion Williamson with the number one pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, sports fans all around the city have been abuzz – this time about the prospect of Williamson in a Pelicans jersey than they are about football.
Recognizing how big a moment this can potentially be for the Big Easy, Brees welcomed Williamson to New Orleans on Tuesday by gifting the Duke superstar an autographed New Orleans Saints jersey. The jersey didn’t just have Brees’ signature, but the 40 year old Brees wrote “Passing the torch to you.”
The special delivery to Zion was coupled with with a card that said, “Zion, welcome to the family. Let’s dance.”
Check out the video of Zion receiving the welcome package from the New Orleans Pelicans’ official Twitter account:

What a great story and the fact that Williamson continues with his genuine “aw shucks” reactions only serves to endear him to the city of New Orleans, the league and the world. This heart-warming video comes less than a week when he cried on the night of the NBA Draft on June 20th even though he, and everyone else, knew that he was going to be selected with the first pick. We’ve no doubt that Zion will be a success in his new hometown.
