Louisville Cardinals Visit White House

Tuesday was a fun day at the White House for the 2013 NCAA champion Louisville Cardinals and for President Barack Obama, who congratulated the team during its visit to Washington, even though he didn’t pick Louisville to win the NCAA Tournament in his personal bracket.

“[Louisville] always played hard, worked together and worked on one singular goal: to bust my bracket,” Obama joked.

The President and Louisville head coach Rick Pitino were both in playful moods during the press conference, which featured plenty of good-natured ribbing. In reference to the tattoo Pitino got on his shoulder to commemorate Louisville’s victory, Obama said:

“You have something that will stay with you forever: a shirtless picture on the Internet. That will never be erased.”

As is customary when a championship team visits the White House, the Cardinals presented the President with gifts, including a customized jersey and a red Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Pitino then got into the jovial spirit of the afternoon, joking that the bat came in handy for him at difficult press conferences.
