Partizan Belgrade may have more big decisions to make if the talk surrounding impressive Czech teenager Jan Veselý continues to get louder as the season continues and the 2010 NBA draft () gets closer.

The 6-11 (2,11) Vesely is still getting plenty of chatter among scouts.

All this despite Partizan’s relative struggles so far in the Adriatic League and Euroleague since he has been asked to play a far bigger role with the likes of Novica Veličković and Stephane Lasme now plying their trades in other cities.

Though Veselý’s stats – 6.8 points per game, 3.2 rebounds – do not look anything special, it’s hard to remember that the 19-year-old is just that, a teenager with little in the way of long-term experience.

Although a little more had been expected of him in his second full season, much of that expectation had come on the back of Partizan’s excellent season in 2008, but things were always going to be different in Belgrade with so many familiar names having left the club.

Asking Veselý to carry the team on his back was never going to happen, and would have been unfair, but these travails will only help him develop into what most expect to become an NBA player in the future.

But will that happen next year? At the moment, NBA Predictions suggest that it looks a bit early for Vesely to make the transition – remember what happened to Darko Milicic for example, now he seems likely to come back to Europe and play after such a disappointing career in North America.

Vesely needs time, but Partizan might not have that given their financial position at the moment.

Pundits in Serbia expect Vesely to be moved before the draft, which will make him less interesting to NBA teams because of the buyout that team would receive – remember all that Ricky Rubio nonsense for example from last summer?

Just don’t forget the name – Jan Veselý may not be a superstar, but when you think of the impact the likes of Omri Casspi and Sergio Rodriguez are starting to make, why not dream.
