The Minnesota Timberwolves have one of the youngest and most athletic rosters in the NBA. Now they need to find experienced veterans to stabilize their team. Not only that they’ll be cleaning up some of the second tier players’ contracts over the next two seasons, but they have the number one draft pick this year which will give them enough flexibility to trade off some of their assets.

With the number one pick, the Minnesota Timberwolves will likely choose a potentially dominant big man in the likes of either Karl Anthony-Towns and Jahlil Okafor. This gives Minnesota enough flexibility to work with both this year’s rookie and Gorgui Dieng and making them the next big 4-5 combo in the league, while having the freedom to talk deals about Nikola Pekovic.
With the need for quality big man by playoff teams Nikola Pekovic can become a great asset in acquiring draft picks for 2016 and clearing up some cap space.
Even if they decide to re-sign Anthony Bennett before the start of the 2016/2017 season the Timberwolves will still have enough cap space to land some veteran players in free agency such as Joakim Noah, Al Horford, Danilo Gallinari or maybe even Kevin Durant (unlikely).
Just remember that lots of players will want to play on a team that features young talents in Ricky Rubio, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Bennett and this year’s first round pick. Imagine a whole first team consisting of rising talents and potential all-stars plus Kevin Durant (unlikely) in the mix and a deep bench.
