1992 Dream Team inducted; Bird zings 60’s squad

The legendary 1992 Dream Team was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall Of Fame in the 2010 class that also includes two of the members of that team – Karl Malone and Scottie Pippen – whom were also inducted as individual players.

Pippen and Malone along with Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Chris Mullin David Robinson, and John Stockton came together and won the gold medal for the U.S. in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

And it’s likely that every one of those players, save for Mullin, will be inducted into the Hall Of Fame (Laettner for his college career).

The Class of 2010 also included Jerry Buss, Cynthia Cooper, Bob Hurley Sr., along with the posthumous honoring of Dennis Johnson, Gus Johnson and Maciel “Ubiratan” Pereira and the 1960 USA men’s Olympic team – the team that was most-compared with the 1992 squad.

“I don’t know who had the best team, but I know the team in 1960 was a hell of a lot tougher than we were,” Bird said with a serious face “Because I couldn’t imagine the ’92 team getting in them covered wagons for eight days, going across the country, jumping in the Atlantic Ocean, swimming for six days, then walking 3,000 miles to the Colosseum in Rome – for a dollar a day.”

Haha. Ouch.
