First time i watched a football game live was when we hosted the SEA Games last 07, the women's games were then held at Marikina. I was never an avid fan but still congrats to our team. ;)

VAN PHUONG WANTS THE THREE POINTS; GREATWICH LOOKS FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE

HANOI (4 Dec 2010) - Vietnam national team captain Nguyen Minh Phuong is just looking at picking up the three points while for Philippines’ Chris Greatwich believes that the team is capable of an even better performance.

Vietnam will take on the Philippines in the second match of the second match day of Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 tomorrow evening at the My Dinh National Stadium.

Minh Phuong, who scored one goal in their 7-1 demolition of Myanmar in their first match two days ago, said that it is far more important to win than to set scoring goals.

“I’m just looking at winning the points. It does not really matter whether I score or do not score in the game. I just want the three points and that collectively, we win as a team,” said Minh Phuong.

“But it will be tough against the Philippines as from their first match, you can see that they have physically better players and they will be tough to crack.”

Added Vietnam national coach Henrique Calisto: “forget the big win over Myanmar. We are playing against a different team, a different coach, a different situation and different everything. So our approach will also have to be different. There will not be any special preparation although we must always look to improve and improve. Only the museum can live with the past.”

In the meantime, after scoring what was their best ever results against former champions Singapore two days ago, the Philippines will be hoping that they can deliver the same to the hosts.

Greatwich, who scored the equalizing goal in their 1-1 draw against Singapore, said that it was their best result as a team in six years.

“There was definitely euphoria after the draw against Singapore. And I truly believe that we are progressively getter better,” said Greatwich.

“The possibility of being better is always viable and I believe that at the moment, we can compete with the best teams in the region at this level. So now, it is important that we remain focus and get the result that we want against Vietnam.”

Added Simon McMenemy, the chief coach of the Philippines: “a few of the players are not at 100%, so we will see whether we can put up the best for tomorrow. For me, whatever happens tomorrow is not important as long are competitive and show that we are hard to beat. It is already an honour to play at this level when considering that back home we do not get a lot of support for anything.”

Philippines-Azkals take on defending champ Vietnam

Boosted by its 1-1 draw against favored Singapore on Thursday, the Philippines hopes to survive another tough assignment when it takes on defending champion Vietnam in the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup at the My Dinh National Stadium at 8:30 p.m. (Manila time) on Sunday.

The Filipinos are again the heavy underdogs when they face the host squad, which cruised to a 7-1 win over Myanmar also last Thursday.

And while the draw against Singapore was pivotal, national team manager Dan Palami said that his wards' job is far from over.

"It will get a lot tougher from here," said Palami, who is the president of the Leyte Football Association (LFA) and was recently named a board member of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).

"We should be done celebrating the Singapore draw and start focusing on Vietnam. We have our work cut out for us," Palami said.

A late injury time goal by Filipino-British Chris Greatwich, a US-based veteran midfielder, forced the draw against the Singaporeans as both teams scored a point each behind Vietnam's three.

"Nobody is expecting us to make an impact here," said Palami. "That's been our motivation."

While they face a tall order in beating the hosts, Palami hopes that his wards would play with the same intensity as they did against Singapore.

Assessing that first match, Simon McMenemy, the Philippines' English coach, said they hope to improve on their counterattacking in the hope of scoring an upset against powerhouse Vietnam.

"Against Singapore, we counterattacked well without even a plan," said McMenemy. "I think if we put a little more structure into it, we can create more goal-scoring opportunities."

At the pre-match press briefing in Hanoi, Vietnam coach Henrique Calisto said he took notice of the Philippines' new-found confidence. "The Philippines are a strong team with a strong defense and we must be careful." – JVP, GMANews.TV

Great result against the Lions. ^_^

Now, I do hope we can keep it up against Vietnam. A draw is or a win is a must. But if we lose, it's all right, as long as it's not via blowout.
If we lose, it'll be a lot complicated. If we win(which is unlikely, but I think we do have a chance. we need a lot of luck), we only need a draw against Myanmar and if we tie and win against Myanmar, hello semis.

BTW, Barotac Nuevo was in a standstill during the game. I watched it with a dozen Sikad drivers in a TV screen planted outside the house of IAN ARANETA's AUNT. The equalizer was like Pac's opponent getting KTFO'd.

BTW, IAN ARANETA and Chieffy Caligdong are Barotac Nuevo's best. ^_^

OT : I'm a sophomore Broadcasting student and during the MassCom Sports fest, we reached the finals and went against the Seniors. lol. I played CB and I'm only 5'5. I was like clearing the ball everytime it goes in the penalty area. Seniors had more than a dozen shots while we only had one.

1-1 end of regulation.

I know how it feels to miss a penalty kick (went off the top of the post, I'm a strong kicker and my nerves got the better of me). Anyway, luckily I was the only one who missed and our 5'7 keeper saved 2 shots. we won 1-1 (4-3) on penalties. We were like AAAAAAHHHH!!!!

WOOOOO!!!!

all over the field

This concisely translates to delaying the inevitable for Martinez.:D The congress still has the final say.

It goes with the famous saying,

""Mahirap patayin ang masamang damo..

I think this is just for formalities sake.. FIFA just wants us to talk s!@# to him more..:p
