I think football is more of a national issue. How many aoccer fields does the national government or local governments open up to the public? How can you stoke up interest when probably 90% of pinoys dont have access to soccer fields. Whereas you can setup a makeshift basketball half court almost anywhere.
Space issues... Most of good spaces will bought by "Landlords" to create malls or Housing for their business than create football fields...
Yes. Also, while most other countries have parks. We rarely do, mostly only malls. I guess, the thought is parks are useless since they don't bring in money while malls do.
Yeah... Capitalist mindset of our government and those businessmen.. We can't blame them, Since money is always involve... Reason why basketball still the king sport here because it generates money for all sectors...
Imo, a women's football league has more potential. Many here probably have no idea that women's football in the HS and college levels has some of the most attractive players. Even more than volleyball players. It's the sport of choice especially for the mestizas and popular ladies from the provinces. There was a time when the rosters of dlsu and admu looked like Star Circle batches. It doesn't have the stigma of womens basketball and seen as cool by our local colegialas. Add to that the hafus from Europe and the US.
When it comes to marketable players, this sport has potential.
Azkals is eliminated and beaten by Thailand via aggregate..
Proud of the team.. A promising young team.. excited on the next window for the afc cup qualifiers
