PAO vs OLY in Greek Cup final

Panathinaikos wins it finally. Congratulations 2 them, they just hit the shots they had 2 make, so they deservedly win. They were the best 3p shooters tonight and they won.
This is european bball, enjoy...
Come on T.W.Is.M., it's not as simple as that. Oly was very much in the game until late, but they lacked some intensive defense. Diamantidis was completely unguarded in those 3-point shots and those two moments were the key of the game imo. Oly had more offensive boards, but those did not translate into made shots, that's the fundamental in basketball, either you make the shots or you don't :p
Congrats to PAO, although I was rooting for Oly on this particular one ;)

I'm watching it perfectly with no cuts, I'm using Firefox (with IE it had the problems you mention).
Wait a few hours and the game will be in the A1 video thread in the video section.

i didnt know firefox will be better :-( and now the game is over :-(

where exactly can i find the game? what is A1?

thanks!

Well in general Spanoulis played outstanding defense on all of the guards of Olympiacos and they couldn't really get any offense going. Then Olympiacos could not defend PAO's pick and roll and they were just getting torched as their defense kept breaking down. Diamantidis was getting open shots because I think Olympiacos was broken on D at that point because they just could not guard the pick and roll.

Giannakis never made any adjustments.

I always upload Panathinaikos' games on Rapidshare. If you are interested, I can give you the links when I am finished.

Panathinaikos now has 46 Championships and Cups in Greece.

Aris, Olympiakos and PAOK that follow have 45, combined.

PAO won it fairly. One more cup as usuall. It was a closed game but as i predicted the game was judged in 35-40 minute. When PAO controlled the rythm and the RBs it was obvious he will have more chance in the end.

23 titles for Alvertis!!!
26 for Obradovic (add 4 as player)!!!

DD was amazing. He took the game by his own in the second. The 3 3points were huge but is was OLY fault of leaving the best shooter of PAO alone.
And ofcourse it was not the best game of DD but one of the best of them:)

I think it was the best he ever played. Not his best game because there are other more important games than this. But he played almost perfectly.

Well, it looks that simple 2 me, especially if u think that 3 of these shots were made by one player and if u look at the 3rd shot, he got the ball and since he was open, he decided 2 shoot. It wasn't a shot created by a play or good ball movement. He just had a good look, he was confident because he had made the previous 2 shots and hit it.
Now we could discuss that Greer shouldn't b the one guarding Diamantidis, that Milosevic shouldn't play at that particular point of the game, that Pargo shouldn't b left out in the second half, that the "twin-towers" lineup was too slow 4 PAO's frontline, that Vujcic couldn't protect the basket when Diamantidis started scoring with his drives(and got hot eventually), that Sofo was forgotten again in the second half, that Bouroussis saw action in the 2nd half in the 29th minute 4 the first time 4 some reason etc. But although all these happened, the match came down 2 these shots. They determined the outcome and it is a fact that PAO scored 15 consecutive points only with 3p shots(from 57-57 to 72-64). Why should I focus on something else while I believe that the game would one way or another b determined in the 4th quarter in the details?

Because if you turn the ball over 3 times in the row right after each of these 3 3pointers the score is not necessarily 72-64 and everything is still open. If you recall pao hit another 2 3pointers right before that, but oly was still up by 1. So why not focus on the turnovers and say euro ball is all turnovers, but focus on 3pointers. Imo no its not the 3pointers, it's more complicated than that.

20 three pointers attempted, compared to 54 field goal attempts overall and 21 free throws attempt. Rather healthy ratio. Nothing wrong with working for open shots, and PAO had plenty of them. By the way, the corner spot, probably the spot where PAO gets the majority of its three pointers from [probably, I don't have data], is only a few centimeters closer on FIBA court compared with the NBA court.

PAO will be hard to stop this season if Diamantidis and Saras lead the floor like this and if Peperoglou continues to play on this level on the small forward spot.

About Oly, I don't know what to say. Bouroussis battled admirably down low, Printezis is a good opportunistic scorer, Papaloukas still has a lot in him. Those are okay. The rest? So many individuals, but no real concept, no direction, no clear roles.

To be fair, if Childress can do anything to bother Diamantidis this could have made a difference in that game. Surely he would not get those open 3's with Childress guarding him. Of course the offense of Olympiacos would probably also be worse with Childress in the game.

The way I c it u win when u score more than the opponent, not when u concede less. So I focus on the good offensive effort rather than the bad one. Turnovers happen in every game, in every league. This thing about 3p shots is a unique characteristic of european bball. There was plenty of other things that could affect the outcome and maybe they did. But the shots by Diamantidis determined it.
And 2 answer your question more clearly: PAO scored 2 3pointers and still Olympiacos found the way 2 respond and reclaim the lead. But it's another thing 2 respond to 2 3point shots and another thing 2 respond to 5. In a period of about 5 minutes it's very natural 2 commit turnovers. It's natural 2 hit open shots. The difficult thing is 2 make 5 3point shots in 5 minutes and that makes a difference in a tight game. So it may b complicated, but at the end close games r decided by simple things.

Like turning the ball over multiple times in crunch time in a final against the arch rival while leaving their best shooter hit wide open 3s? Imo its not about euro ball style or the distance of the 3p line. It's about making crucial mistakes in crucial moments. Let Diamantidis wide open to shoot 3s from 8 meters and he most likely make most of them. Let's just agree that we disagree (in a civilized manner of course:))

Btw pao had very early in the 4th 4 fouls while oly had 4 to give. I didn't see any strategy by yannakis built on that advantage...

The evil anti-Oly refs called the first foul on the 4th quarter against Olympiakos with 5 minutes played.

The funny thing is that Olympiakos wanted to stop the clock at the end and they didn't have enough fouls. :D
