Lebanese League -Official thread- News and Updates

Do we have a formal system to trade players here in Lebanon?

I was thinking that Sagesse could really use Alpha as well next year in the local league. If that happens then they would need a solid Lebanese presence down low along with the 2nd import.

Also, with the implementation of the 10 team league next year, does that mean that the 2 finalists from the 2nd division will be moved up? It seems that Kahraba and Tebnine would be good additions especially considering Tebnine's performance against Mouttahed in the Lebanese Cup.

The lebanese teams should start a new mentality in Basketball, like trade players, draft the players, load the players...
this summer should be very decisive for the future of the lebanese league, today Elie Mchantaf said that Sagesse next year will have a very good bench with very good players,i felt happy when i heard such statements from Elie. This means that Sagesse is seriously thinking to compete Riyadi and trying to reach a good level outside especially that next year the champion of the asian cup will qualify to the WC for clubs like the Mcdonald championship if you remember when Sagesse had participated.
Blue Stars also is very close to sign with the lebanese descent player " Tom Ammar" who will be a great addition to the lebanese basketball,be sure!

Mouttahed seem to be a very professional team, every year mouttahed is improving with a great enthusiasm.
Tebnine and kahraba as u said are very close to move up to the 1st div,i hope they will be competitive next year.

Notes:
Also Coach Fouad Abou chakra will be hosted tomorrow with Ibrahim Wehbe on New TV in "Dunk" program to discuss the reasons for the bad performance of Riyadi during the arab champions cup.
In the div 2 league, tebnine led the serie 2-0 against ENB,and same for kahraba vs Antonine.

Blue Stars Dictates A 2-1 Series Lead Against Champville

Date: May 3, 2008

Getting into the desired rhythm early on the game proved worthy for Blue Stars.

Game 3 started out looking like a carbon copy of Game 1… Champville’s attempts leading to Blue Stars’ fast breaks.

Blue Stars had it easy in the first half. All the hosts had to do was make sure they rebound Champville’s missed shots and score in transition.

After a close few minutes, Blue Stars went on a 10-0 run, mainly off fast breaks, and never trailed from there.

In the second quarter, Champville’s shots betrayed its players once more. And once more, the Blue Stars took advantage.

They doubled their lead, extending it to 15 points, and outscoring Champville 21-13.

Even when they weren’t scoring in transition, they were showing their dominance inside.

Blue stars shot 53% from the floor, making 13 of 17 attempts in the paint, where they found little resistance, to lead 49-33 at the break.

Keeping a 15-point-plus cushion in the third, Blue Stars proved themselves worthy of a Game 3 victory. They stayed in control throughout the second half and sealed the 72-60 win to lead the series 2-1.

Jarred Merrill, who left the game at the end of the third quarter, after sustaining an ankle injury, finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds.

“It’s [the ankle] throbbing,” Merrill said. “Just gotta ice it, sleep on it and get some rest… and I hope I’ll be able to play tomorrow.”

About the game, he said, “We’ve had problems all year. Sometimes we’re good, sometimes we’re bad. We just can’t be consistent.”

Next game is tomorrow on 5 pm.

Jean Abdel Nour was simply unstoppable in the first half. I thought that he was gonna go for 40 for sure. Still great stuff. Waki Williams isn't looking too good.

Maybe they should consider getting somebody who is a better low post scorer if they want to have a chance against Riyadi if/when they qualify to the Final Four.

Division 2 results updates

CS Antonins Baabda won against Kahraba Zouk and managed to reduce the score to 2-1, preventing Kahraba Zouk from another victory. Anis Feghali was the star of the game, leading his team to win, scoring from everywhere and giving it the hope to reach a fifth game. Kahraba Zouk players seemed tired and exhausted, in 3rd and 4th quarters, due to the three consecutive games they were playing.

Tebnine ended its series v/s ENB, 3-0, with a 12 point difference. The game was exciting; the confrontation was at its highest extent. ENB players did not abandon until the end, especially Ahmad Abou Al Nasr who was at his best. They even managed till the middle of the second quarter to lead with 10 points, but when C. Tony Khalil pushed Khaled El Mawla (190-G-82) into the court, the latter lead his team to win the game. Tebnine lost the efforts of its pointguard Georges Akiki (171-G-83) who got a serious knee injury, during the second quarter.

Tebnine will have to wait for the result of Kahraba Zouk / CS Antonins (next game on Monday at 20h00 at Kahraba) confrontation to see which team it will be facing in the final.

Game 4:
Blue stars vs Champville 72-69

Best performances:

Champville: Jonathan Jones (21pts,10rebs),Elie Estephan (15pts,5rebs),Karl Sarkis (14pts)

Blue Stars: Derek Tarver 25pts,Jean Abdelnour( 22pts,7rebs),Waki Williams (18pts,11rebs)

Serie : 3-1 for Blue Stars !!

Congratulations!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
With Jarred Merrill sidelined with an ankle injury, Champville lost the most important game of the season… the game that ended its 2008 journey.

After trading the lead with Blue Stars for 39 minutes, hosts Champville saw themselves down by 3.

With 11 seconds to go in the game, Merrill gets on the court for a chance to tie the game behind the arc.

He never received the ball, and Champville ended up with a missed shot. The result was a Game 4 win for Blue Stars, and most importantly, the Final Four birth.

When asked how hard was it to watch the team lose without being able to do something about it, Merrill said: “It was hard. Putting a lot into the season and team to just not be able to fight with them when they needed me most hurt.”

Ending the series with the 3-1 lead, Blue Stars get ready to meet champions Al Riyadi in the semifinals.

Now the semi final games are:
Blue Stars vs Riyadi
Sagesse vs Mouttahed

with anothere good foreigner (not necessarly nba player) we might be able to clinch the title this season

WOW! Jumaine Jones... that's so great. This is a player who has NBA Finals experience. Very excited to see what he can bring to the team.

I'll try to scan and post up an article on him I have from SLAM Magazine issue #54 when the Lakers beat the Sixers for the 2001 NBA championship.

This is good because I guess he is the first NBA caliber player to come to Lebanon who is still in his prime since he is 29 years old. In the past we used to get ex-NBA players who were at the end of their career such as Willie Burton, Dickie Simpkins and Benoit Benjamin.

Illmatic, there's too many NBA players who came to Lebanon like Mark Strickland,Kenny saterfield,....

Updates on Division 2:

The old exhausted Kahraba Zouk beat the young CS Antonins (61-57) and ended the series 3-1 to reach the finals of the 2nd division. A tied and tensed game, several 24 seconds violations were called in the last quarter. The Experienced duo Kozah - Saba were the game turning point in addition to their young centers effort. Mark Kozah (190-F-73) (190-F-73) ended the game by a killing 2 points shot at the last 17 seconds.
From the other side, CS Antonins couldn't stop the ambitious Kahraba Zouk from reaching the finals, even thought the hard and non stop efforts of its point guard Anis Feghali who had a great performance. C. Georges Kilzi applied the zone defense, for most of the game time, and last ones as well, which facilitate the mis-matched Patrick Saba (166-G-71)'s offense who was finding easily the open gaps and mates.
Finally, CS Antonins will face ENB for 3rd position, while Kahraba Zouk have to face Tebnine for the championship title.

The airport is closed today as the MEA decided to stop their airplanes today due for the problems beside the airport.

The question now, after what is happening now, will the league going to be continued ? :(

Fuck politics !

Hopefully none of the games will be postponed.

I propose we lock Jumaine in a cage and unleash him on Mouttahed on Saturday. Agree? :) btw Marcus Melvin is here? Or Brand is staying? Anybody catch any of their practices? Hope they can get used to each other before the game.

It seems that due for the situation, sagesse decided to just bring Jumaine alongside with kevin jonhson.
That's all what i know,i doubt any player accept to come anyway.
