South Korea NT 2016 - 2018

Head Coach Hur Jae, has expressed concern on the recent injuries of Kim Jong-Kyu (meniscus rupture) and Lee Jong-Hyun (minor stress fracture) and there are talks that he may opt to rest both the 206cm centers in the upcoming EABA (2-8 Jun) in order to save them up for FIBA Asia Cup and for future competitions.

WIthout Jong-Kyu and Jong-Hyun, Korea is facing a height challenge as most of the big men are mostly 200cm or below:

Oh Se-Keun 200cm
Jang Jae-Seok 203cm
Lee Seung-Hyun 197cm
Kim Junil 200cm
200cm Kang Sangjae
Choi Bu-Kyung 200cm
Choi Jin-Soo 202cm

With EABA, Korean can get away with having this depth chart:

Oh Se-Keun / Choi Bu-Kyung / Jang Jae-Seok
Lee Seung-Hyun / Kim Junil
Choi Joon-Young / Heo Il-Young

KBA and KBL announced today that they will sponsor Ricardo Ratliff's naturalization to the justice department. Ratliff will undergo a merits review via the special naturalization.

If Ratliff becomes a naturalized Korean, is he obligated to join the military for 2 years?

Ratliff won't be conscripted by him being a category 5 cadet under the Korean armed forces law. He will only be conscripted into the army when war threatens the motherland.

The Sandrin brothers, Tony Akins and the Moon brothers were also exempted from armed forces conscription even though their mothers are Korean nationals, by virtue of them not being registered under the Korean civil registry

In: Doo Kyung-Min, Byeon Ki-Hoon, Lee Daesung, Park In-Tae and Song Kyochang.

More backbiting from the KBA and this time, the President Pang Hyeol, made a public stunt of the KBL's 20 years.

While the KBL has supported the national team for 20 years, the lack of Olympic appearance is not solely to blame with the KBL. The KBA is also suffering from internal politics and how they have handled the funding for both the men and women's teams.

Hur Hoon is being pegged as this year's top draft pick --- given that this year's class is quite shallow where you get guys like KU's Kim Nak-Hyeon and Yonsei's Ahn Young-Jun headline the projected top three.

Korea NT for 2017 William Jones Cup

Guards
Kim Sun-Hyung (SK Knights), Heo Hoon (Yonsei University), Kim Si-Rae (LG Sakers), Lee Daesung (Ulsan Mobis), Lee Jung-Hyun (KCC Egis), Heo Ung (Sangmu Armed Forces)

Forwards
Yang Hee-Jong (Anyang KGC), Jeon Jun-Beom (Ulsan Mobis), Im Dong-Seop (Samsung Thunder), Choi Joon-Young (SK Knights), Lee Seung-Hyun (Sangmu Armed Forces), Yang Hong-Seok (Chung Ang University)

Centers
Kim Jong-Kyu (LG Sakers), Lee Jong-Hyun (Ulsan Mobis), Oh Se-Keun (Anyang KGC)

I for one expect Kim Si-Rae to break like a cookie in the actual tournament. Since 2015, fella manages to injure himself or wear himself out early even before the tournament. Yang Hee-Jong is the oldest in this team and he has not played since 2014 during the Asian Games. Come to think of it, Oh Se-Keun also last played in 2014 and found himself in a match fixing scandal in 2015 as well as injuries racking up in 2016.

Is he truly the best Korean prospect in the PG position, or is there some nepotism going on? Saw him at EABA, while he has some game, I don't think he's very impressive.

In a number of games I saw of H. Hoon in Yonsei, he definitely can run a team and be its secondary option on offense. As for Korea, guys like PG Kim Si-Rae as injury prone, Lee Jae-Do struggles on offense while Park Jae-Hyun (starter PG in EABA 2013) fizzled out in the KBL. For nepotism and favoritism, I can't discount that as Hur Jae always includes his undersized SG son, H. Ung.

Korea's best PG option is Kim Sun-Hyung and Park Chan-Hee, who at 30, is brings stability but average at best.

Korea's 2017 Universiade Team

F Moon Seonggon
G Cheon Ki-Beom
C Park In-Tae
G Kim Nak-Hyeon
F Jeon Hyun-Woo
C Park Jong-Hyun
F Heo Jeong
G Byeon Jun-Hyeong
F Kang Sangjae
F Ahn Yeong-Jun
G Kim Jin-Yong
C Lee Yoon-Su

Good enough to be Korea's team B NT. They are contracted to scrimmage with Team A (currently playing in Jones Cup) late this month.

So it's Heo UNG who is Hur Jae's kid, not Heo HOON? I thought it was the other way around.

Sungkyungkwan's Lee Yun-Su must be tested for the senior's NT this year or next as it can't be just 6'9 Lee Jong-Hyun and Kim Jong-Kyu who are the only option at center. Oh Se-Keun is 30 and is showing the loss of his athleticism.

Quality wise, Kim Jong Kyu and Lee Jong Hyun will not match Oh's

That's a huge misconception. Korea's most indispensable big man today is Kim Jong-Kyu who emerged when Oh Se-Keun was unavailable in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 with a solid record of games started and the the first option at center. Jong-Kyu allows Korea to play the pick and roll game with potency. He combines the athleticism that Se-Keun once had and the ability to shoot at the perimeter, something that Se-Keun developed only 2 years ago.

Problem with Se-Keun now is his mobility and the loss of his vertical jumping. His rebounding, pick and roll game and blocking are likewise at a downtrend compared to his pre-KBL days.
