South Korea NT 2016 - 2018

Korea NT for the Asian Qualifiers second window:

Park Chan-Hee (Incheon ET Land), Doo Kyung-Min (DB Promy), Heo Hoon (Busan KT), Lee Jung-Hyun (KCC Egis), Choi Jun-Young (SK Knights), Heo Ung (DB Promy), Jeon Jun-Beom (Ulsan Mobis), Yang Hee-Jong (Anyang KGC), Oh Se-Keun (Anyang KGC), Lee Jong-Hyun (Ulsan Mobis), Kim Jong-Kyu (LG Sakers) and Ricardo Ratliffe (Samsung Thunder).

Missing are Kim Sun-Hyung and Lee Seung-Hyun due to injuries. I feel that Yang Hee-Jong's inclusion would not have been justified given that SFs such as Yang Hong-Seok of Busan or Lim Dong-Seop of Samsung are healthy. Same with Heo Ung, who is also in the military but Wonju is winning without him. Heo Ung could have made way for bigger SGs like Heo Il-Young or Lee Dae-Sung.

Lee Jong-Hyun (Ulsan Mobis) will miss Korea's 2018 campaign due to an ACL tear. Either Kang Sangjae (Incheon) or Choi Bukyong (SK Knights) will replace him as Hur Jae is still weighting the options.

Seoul SK's Choi Bukyung will replace the injured Lee Jong-Hyun for the 2nd Window of the Asian Qualifiers.

Initially, Hur Jae eyed Lee Seung-Hyun as a re-inclusion but his knee was not healed yet. Then it was Ha Seung-Jin and Song Kyochang but Hur deemed Seung-Jin to be unfit for his uptempo attack while Song lacks experience. So it was Choi, who got the nod as he played in the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge Cup.

OT:

17pts, 9 rebs and 1 blk for 200cm Lee Hyun-Jung but NBA Global Academy lost to VIC U20 Team 93-81. Lee averages 19.9ppg and 8.7rpg in the Middleschool varsity league.

Korea will honor Kim Joo-Sung at halftime vs HKG. In commemoration of Joo-Sung's career with the NT from 1998 to 2014. 2x AG gold medalist. 2 FIBA WC appearances.

After the first month of the KUBL, the college league, the following players are call up worthy for the NT:

PF Park Jong-Hyun 204cm - Korea University = Lost of a lot of weight and has a much deeper range compared last year.

C Han Yungi 206cm - Korea University = Rookie but is a product of the U17, U18 and U19 programme. Has motor but needs to add muscle. Freshman with an impressive footwork. Mainly scores on pick and roll situations.

SG Jeon Hyun-Woo 194cm - Korea University = Shows better ability on the dribble attack compared to his freshman year. He has been called up for the NT last year and that experience helped him in his composure. He is more consistent now with the outside shot.

SF Yang Jae-Min 200cm - Yonsei University = Freshman but lives up to the hype. Needs to add more muscle and must improve close-game decision making.

PG Lee Jung-Hyun 187cm = At 6'1 considerably better than his frosh contemporaries Heo Hoon and Cheon Ki-Bum. The best guard in that 2016 U17 Korea NT.

C Lee Yunsu - Sung Kyunkwan 206cm = junior student needs to experience senior NT. He has played in the U18, U19 and Universiade NT. Has motor but will need to refine that jumpshot.

How I envy the Korean federation. In the Philippines calling up university players to the senior team is impossible.

Coach Hur Jae confirmed that training camp begins May 21, 2018. KBL players such as Doo Kyung-Min and Kim Seung-Hyun who are in the KBL finals can report June 02.
