It's just the NT, so does the offer state that he has to stay in Puerto Rico?
Members of the NT can still proceed with their professional careers right?

That's the only possible reason to give up Sol..that they'll probably lose him for nothing..

yup, they can still proceed with their professional careers. in sol's case, it'll be in the puerto rican league, not in the PBA.

If Sol's tweet is to be believed (the one where he mentioned he was still under contract) then it looked like he was willing to honor those 2 years first. But i guess i understand Meralco's thinking that they get some value out of him first rather than lose him for nothing (if eventually he wants to play in PR)

Japeth Aguilar to GlobalPort, Rabeh Al-Hussaini to Talk ‘N Text trade sealed

Japeth Aguilar may finally get his wish to be traded to another team as Talk ‘N Text has agreed to deal that would send the athletic forward to GlobalPort in exchange for Rabeh Al-Hussaini.

GlobalPort coach Junel Baculi confirmed the news to InterAKTV.

“I got a call from my boss, [GlobalPort executive] Erick Arejola and he told me na tuloy na itong trade with Japeth and Rabeh,” Baculi said in a telephone interview.

The deal is subject to approval by the PBA. Commissioner Chito Salud has the right to veto or revise trades his office deems imbalanced.

Salud is currently in Singapore along with members of the PBA Board of Governors to discuss the league’s support for the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team for the FIBA Asia Championship, which will be staged in Manila in August. Team officials have taken the meeting as an opportunity to discuss trade details on the sidelines.

Aguilar left for the United States prior to the start of the season to try out for teams in the NBA D-League. He was drafted by the Santa Cruz Warriors but was unable to make a roster.

Talk ‘N Text, which still holds PBA rights to Aguilar, expressed its intention to re-sign the player. But Aguilar shocked Tropang Texters management by demanding for a trade, hoping to get more playing time.

“If he’s looking for playing time, I’m willing to give it to him,” said Baculi. “But he has to prove himself not only with our team but to Philippine basketball as well.”

The deal also reunites Al-Hussaini, a former UAAP Most Valuable Player, with his college coach Norman Black at Talk ‘N Text.

GlobalPort acquiring Meralco star Sol Mercado in six-player deal

The GlobalPort Batang Pier are hellbent on making a splash in the Commissioner’s Cup.

After sealing a deal to acquire Japeth Aguilar from Talk ‘N Text, GlobalPort has also agreed to terms that would land them Meralco star Sol Mercado, who led the PBA in scoring and assists in the Philippine Cup, according to coach Junel Baculi.

In the deal, which is up for PBA approval, GlobalPort would acquire Mercado and rookies Kelly Nabong and JP Belencion from Meralco in exchange for Rey Guevarra, rookie Vic Manuel, swingman Josh Vanlandingham, and a 2015 first-round pick.

The deal would reunite Mercado with GlobalPort owner Mikee Romero, for whose Harbour Centre squad the spitfire guard played in the Philippine Basketball League.

“Boss Mikee also wants Sol because he played for Harbour Centre before,” said GlobalPort coach Junel Baculi. “We also realized that with the kind of import we have, we really need to tinker our line up.”

GlobalPort import Justin Williams is a solid defender and rebounder. But he has limited offensive skills, leaving Baculi trying to shore up the team’s offensive firepower.

The deal would give the Batang Pier three of the top offensive players in the league with Mercado, Gary David, and Willie Miller.

LOL 1 basketball isn't enough to go around Miller, David and Mercado. Good luck to Baculi.

I estimate 60 attempts from these 3 players every game. :o

this kind of blockbuster trades makes the PBA more exciting. well at least for me.hehe.

Meralco, Air 21 put on hold Ronjay Buenafe for Noy Baclao, John Wilson trade

After completing a trade that would send away star guard Sol Mercado to GlobalPort, the Meralco Bolts have put on hold another deal that involves another top gunner.

A highly-placed source within the Bolts said the trade that would send Ronjay Buenafe and a second-round pick to the Air 21 Express in exchange for Noy Baclao and John Wilson is currently on the shelf.

Air 21 coach Franz Pumaren earlier expressed interest of acquiring a scorer in the mold of Buenafe, whom he believes could shore up his team’s soft spot.

“We’re looking at a No. 2 guy who is a known scorer. We’re trying to get somebody who could fill in our weakest position,” said Pumaren. ”

“If the deal will push through, I think Ronjay Buenafe can ably fill that spot.”

On Thursday morning, the Bolts pulled the trigger on a trade that would send top scorer Sol Mercado to GlobalPort along with rookies Kelly Nabong and JP Belencion in exchange for Rey Guevarra, Vic Manuel, Josh Vanlandingham, and a 2015 first round pick.

Remember, they might be playing with Aguilar with the rumored (confirmed?) Aguilar-Rabah trade.

So there are additional balls to go around.

Oh wait...

As a PBA fan im upset on what MERALCO is doing. Mercado and Nabong showed a very good performance in the last conference and proved that they just lack a good center for them to be in semis/finals. Bad move for MERALCO. DDO is suited for SOL not for the likes of guevarra/ vanlandingham. sigh

I bet Global Port is not the final destination for Japeth and Sol...

With the recent statement of ROMERO, i do believe that he wants to have SOL and JAPETH. If david/miller should play the 2 spot alternately and mercado will be the main PG. If david/mercado or miller/mercado tandem clicks damn Global port suddenly becomes a good playoffs contender.

what will be SMC's retaliation about this? i hope the national team will not be the "retaliation".... bad move by MVP considering he wants basketball unity...

Ginebra has nothing young and attractive now to offer other teams. It is dependent on which players petron and sanmig gets tired off. Tnt got more than a good deal. Meralco also has younger and able workers now, and will wait for a good center probably from drafts. Why would ginebra need a lazy cretin? Ginebra simply needs players from the overstocked pbb like fajardo. Pbb will never need fajardo in championships. It actually was forced to adjust to having a regular center. only tnt and ros are good enough to slow down its guards and forwards.

Mvp just saved rsa, and gbp may be in for a rude disappointment if it does not discipline players.

Once upon a time ginebra had a pedicab driver center. The son would like a job as tricycle driver center because that improves on the father. Now if ginebra actually finds a center with work ethics, it becomes a champion again.
