Lebanese FLB League-Season 2012-2013

  • Thread starter Thread starter gazara2
  • Start date Start date
Regarding the new system of the championship, i'm completely against it specially this season since all the players have to play additional games and get exhausted while the top two will sit and wait doing nothing during a season until the conclusion of 3rd vs 6th , 4th vs 5th series.
After final 8 the top two teams who will qualify directly to the final 4, they have to wait till the series sum up (which will affect them somehow without playing any official games during two weeks) on the other hand, the new series between the 3rd vs 6th , 4th vs 5th will make these teams completely exhausted.

Our federation must understand that after this season we have AC 2013, and after the disappointing AC 2011, we need to prepare properly and qualify to the WC 2014. The faster the season ends the better.

100% This new system affects all teams negatively imo. The 3rd through 6th teams will be exhausted and the first 2 teams not playing any games and just waiting for the other series to finish is also bad for them cause it can take them out of their game and focus.

Many other Asian countries are finishing their seasons early this year so their NT's can prepare for the Asian Championship.
In Philippines they have already selected the initial list of players for the NT... In Iran the playoffs have already started and the Iranian league has reached the final 4.
In South Korea the regular season has also already finished and the playoffs are about to start just like the Chinese CBA.

The way our federation is working will lead to our NT failing this upcoming summer.

Comments About the Lebanese League 2013

Comments About the Lebanese League 2013

I have created this thread to comment on the Lebanese league:

In terms of players:

Major prospects:
PG: Wael Arakji 1.93, Joseph Zaloum 1.80, Rodrigue Akl 1.88
SG: AMIR SAOUD 1.88, Tarek Ammoury 1.96,
SF: Bilal Tabbar 1.98, Bassel Bawji 2.03, Elie Roustom 1.97,
PF:Ali Kanaan 2.07 (PF/C), Philip Tabet 2.05
C: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments:
Major prospects on the PG position with tall players like Wael Arakji who have amazing vision on the court and he is still a teenager not forgetting Rodrigue Akl who is getting better and better with every season.

Amir Saoud is a scoring machine and more importantly one who knows when to shoot and thus has a very high percentage, you might think he is undersized as an SG but he has a huge verticle, speed, accuracy and confidence.

Bassel Bawji is even better than expected. Elie Roustom is huge on deffence and Philip Tabet and Ali Kanaan are very promising PFs.

Major Dissapointments / Overrated Players
PG: Ramy Akiki 1.86, Rony Fahed 1.84,
SG: Galeb Rida 1.93, Sabah Khoury 1.96, Nadim Souaid 1.93, Elie Estephan 1.93,
SF: Ahmad Ibrahim 2.02, Mohamad Fahes 2.00
PF: Matt Freiji 2.07,
C: Julian Khazzouh 2.11,

Rony Fahed, ex national team player and hero is very average. Although good players, more was expected from Elie Estephan and Nadim Souaid (although I'm sure they will rebound); Mohamad Fahes is an explosive player who needs to work on his game, if he wasn't so complacent he would be one of the top players in the league.

Ahmad Ibrahim and Galeb Rida are immature and selfish; they can be amazing players but the problem is their attitude.

Julian Khazzouh and Matt Freiji have the size to resolve the National Team's issue with lack of size under the basket. They have been HUGELY disappointing. Both were hugely hyped and I am sure they are earning more than the entire budget of some of the teams at the bottom of the 1st division. Julian especially was hyped as if he was the saviour of the National Team, a Michael Jordan who we should be greatly appreciative of, it was almost like we should be greatlful that he has deigned to play in our lowly league, him who is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

In fact one of the major issues with both players is fitness: when the good Lord gives you such size and you are professional players who could potentially represent your country internationally, the least you can do is to go to the gym. Julian Khazzouh is FLOPPY, yes FLOPPY, a 5 year old girl has more muscles than him. Look at Mike Frazier, at 2.03 he is a beast and is unstoppable under the basket, can you imagine Julian at 2.11 with a body like him, or at the very least if his style is more European he can nevertheless work on his body.

Ghassan Sarkis (for once) is right when he says: 7ejo yrabe7na jmili

Surprises and Improved Players
PG: Ali Barada 1.86, Hassan Lakiss 1.83,
SG: Mazen Mneimneh 1.92, Omar Ayoubi 1.92, Hussein El-Khatib 1.86
SF: Bassel Bawji 2.03 (even better than expected), Bachir Ammouri 1.98
PF: Ali Fakhredine 2.04 (PF/C),
C: Roy Samaha 2.05,

Hussein El-Khatib has emerged as someone who can completely disable a player on deffence. Roy Samaha has greatly improve his fitness and weight (more needed though) and BAchir Ammouri has emerged as a reliable player who can help turn games around.

A MAJOR ISSUE:
The Center position is a major problem BUT we have young players who can be worked on and who ARE NOT:
Jad Moubarak 2.06 is only 23 WHY IS HE IN ANTRANIK
Michael Sadaka 2.07 is only 21 WHY IS HE IN ANTRANIK
Rabih Iskandar 2.10 is only 22
Paul Iskandar 2.04 is only 20
Yaacoub Agha 2.06 is only 18

Foreigners:
Great foreigners especially Loren Woods, Ismael Ahmad, Andre Emmett, Asenso Ampin, Chudney Grey, Jay Youngblood, Mike Frazer, Reyshawn Terry, Nikoloz Tskitisvili, Larry Blair, Eric Chatfield and off course DeShawn Sims and Aaron Harper

Disappointments:
Dalibor Bagaric, Marc Salyers

General:

Stop the politics.

We need better stadiums (being worked on)

LBC doing a terrible job:
1) we need better, more professional camera work
2) we need lighting and effects
3) we need better half time shows
4) we need better statistics, replays and things like player or play of the week
5) we need MUCH better online streaming
6) Ghayas Dibra is amazing but it would be nice if he would have guest commentators with him each time so that we can have a dialogue e.g. old players like Yasser El-Hajj, Elie Mechantaf, Doumiaty etc

LBC is probably the most famous Lebanese station and needs to do a better job

Budgets are increasing and so the the level of professionalism also needs to increase

Tell me what you think

[/QUOTE]

what happen?WHY they can't play?

They are playing ,only in that game because they were injured and couldn't play this game

what's the big idea with ahmad brahim ? is there any problem between him and the coach ?

what's the big idea with ahmad brahim ? is there any problem between him and the coach ?

Some people are saying that he was recovering from a slight injury before yesterday's game but I am sure this is not the truth...

Unfortunately Ahmad is having issues with coach Subotic as he is not listening to what his coach is requesting from him and he is sometimes also challenging and confronting his coach which is something that should never be done... This is why if you guys have noticed Ahmad is getting less and less playing time over the last few games.

Ahmad needs to know that he is not in charge of the team and he needs to listen to his coach just like all the other players are doing... It would be really sad if he continues with this negative attitude because he is a very talented player and he would be destroying his career like this unfortunately... I really hope he wakes up and realizes that he needs to be more humble and down to Earth or else there will be no place for him on Riyadi's roster... Truth be told he needs Riyadi more than they need him because he can see that Riyadi can still manage to play well and win without needing Ahmad Ibrahim to play and there are some talented young players like Amir Saoud and Wael Arakji who are doing really great and proving that they can play and deliver for their team during the absence of Ahmad.

I believe most of the talented players lack the discipline at the start of their careers.
I say we give him sometime..he'll turn up eventually !
And Riyadi's management should act to solve this issue and not just ban the kid from playing games or less minutes on the court. They need to sit with Ahmad and the coach to approach their views for the best interest of the team.

From what I heard they are trying everything with him but so far nothing is working....

Not all young players lack discipline... It's more about maturity... Bassel Bawji was playing in the NCAA and when he came to Lebanon he knew that he needed to work very hard to still improve on his skills and now 3.5 years later he's one of the best forwards in Lebanon.

Amir Saoud is just 1 year older than Ahmad but he's showing a much higher level of seriousness and maturity.

I still do agree that since this is Ahmad's first year in the Lebanese league after just 1 year of university he's still a rookie and this year is going to be a very valuable learning experience for him... Coach Subotic's contract was extended for 2 years so unless Ahmad is thinking of breaking his contract and going to play for another team he must learn how to adapt with coach Subotic.

Bassel Bawji (204-PF)(LEB) Flying Over Loren Woods (218-C)(USA) but Unfortunately after that move Bassel Was Injured and will be out for 1 Month due to a dislocation in his Shoulder !

Could this also be the reason why NT coach Ghassan Sarkis doesn't regard him that high for the NT? That despite Ahmad Ibrahim's potential, being a promising young player, coach Sarkis hasn't named him in the final 12-man roster for the recent international tournaments that Lebanon has participated like last year's Jones Cup, FIBA-Asia Cup, and the more recent WABA Championship.

Sarkis stated in public that he didn't select Ahmad Ibrahim for the WABA roster because he hasn't shown enough maturity yet and I do agree with Sarkis on this (regardless of the bad history Sarkis and Ahmad Ibrahim had on the Lebanese U18 NT)
