Boston Celtics Thread

The Celtics got their perimeter personnel with the acquisition of the versatile Jeff Green, whom the Celtics drafted in 2008 but was traded to the defunct Seattle Supersonics as a part of the draft day trade that brought Ray Allen to the Celtics.

However, the trade cost the Celtics their force in the middle, Kendrick Perkins where it is believed that had Perkins played on Game 7 on the NBA 2010 Finals, the Celtics could have emerged victorious. Nenad Krstic is a decent acquisition and Celtics fans are hoping that the two O'Neals will be healthy come playoff time. A very big risk undertaken by the Celtics.

What's worse is that they dealt semih erden and luke haragody for a 2nd round pick. Now they don't have a center outside the 2 O'neals. I don't even think they have one for tonight's game. KG and Big Baby most likely playing the 4 and 5 with no subs.

Marquis daniels also traded for cash for the kings. Daniels is out for the season.

Danny might be picking up bought out players in the immediate future and there is a rumor of rasheed returning.

The Boston Celtics have agreed to send forward Marquis Daniels to the Sacramento Kings alongside cash considerations to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for a second round draft pick for the 2017 draft.

The deal narrowly beat the trade deadline.

That's too big risk...and they were doing just fine...probably after this season half of the team will be free agents...

I don't really get why the Celtics went for these trades

I thought they were doing just fine...

When Boston traded 2 Players (Semih Erden & Luke Harangody) to Cleveland for a 2013 2nd round drfat pick it free up 2 more roster space for them. I'm betting theyr'e goin after Troy Murphy and a returning Rasheed Wallace. (Hopefully Shasha Pavlovic as well) plus a healthy Oneal's (Shaq and Jermaine) they still got a shot at it!

According to the Boston Globe, the Boston Celtics are interested in Golden State Warriors players: forward Troy Murphy and center Dan Gadzuric on many believe that the said players will have their contracts bought out and will be unrestricted free agents.

Other players mentioned are Jason Kapono of the Philadelphia 76ers and Sasha Pavlovic of the Dallas Mavericks.

In two games as a Boston Celtic, Nenad Krstic is averaging 10 points (50%), 5.5 rebounds in 25 minutes.

Kendrick Perkins, the Celtics' previous starting center, averaged 7 points (54%), 8 rebounds.

Celtics Team Report - Yahoo! Sports, March 1, 2011

....Newcomer Nenad Krstic got two offensive rebounds on the Celts’ first possession. Coach Doc Rivers turned to assistant Lawrence Frank, who coached Krstic with the Nets.

“Does he do that all the time?” Rivers asked.

“If he did, I’d still be in New Jersey,” replied Frank....

:p Awesome reply by assistant coach Frank

I find it also surprising that Troy Murphy will be entering his first playoff campaign on his Nine year professional career as Murphy signed with the playoff bound Celtics. Imagine 639 games played without a single playoff game.

I'm shocked that he didn't play for New Jersey this year. He averaged a double double last year. The man is talented and he's got a massive body.

Did Boston know they could get Murphy? Is that why they were so relaxed about letting Perkins go?

From what I have read about the Perkins situation, the reason Boston traded him for assets now was that Perkins won't sign the extension offer and the Celtics would not take the chance out of the scenario where Perkins signs with another team next off-season. So its better to trade now.

While about Murphy, I think its the allure of playing with a contender that what have made Murphy decide to sign with the Celtics instead of the HEAT.

Murphy would suite the Celtics as Murphy will provide them the same familiar contribution to what Rasheed Wallace provided a year ago.

Boston Celtics 115 Phoenix Suns 103

The Celtics surviving the challenge of the Suns as Boston won their third straight game. Kevin Garnett scored a team high 28 points alongside 11 rebounds and contributing 2 blocks on the defensive effort. Rajon Rondo had a double double of 16 points and 15 assists while Ray Allen scored 19 points. Paul Pierce added 16 points.

Celtics to sign Sasha Pavlovic?

The Boston Herald reports that the Boston Celtics and free agent Sasha Pavlovic are in negotiations.

Allen saves Celtics in 107-103 win over Warriors

BOSTON (AP)—Ray Allen scored 27 points and pulled down a crucial offensive rebound with 12 seconds remaining to help the Boston Celtics hold off Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors 107-103 on Friday night.

Paul Pierce also scored 27 for the Celtics, who let an 18-point lead slip to just one late in the fourth quarter and struggled to put away the pesky Warriors.

Ellis scored 28 of his 41 points in the second half as Golden State rallied and gave the short-handed Celtics a scare right to the end.

Boston wasn’t able to seal it until Allen snatched a rebound off a miss by Kevin Garnett with 12 seconds left, then hit two free throws.

Carlos Arroyo sign with Boston Celtics for the rest of the season
http://www.celticslife.com/2011/03/celtics-sign-carlos-arroyo-as-point.html

A good signing as the Celtics found a back-up point guard for Rondo after the trade of Robinson to Oklahoma. Now Arroyo has the chance for a deep playoff campaign with a legitimate contender with the Celtics like that of Arroyo playing for the 2004-2005 Detroit Pistons. Now if the Celtics do managed to eliminate the HEAT on the playoffs, all in the irony.
