  • Mayor pushes for new sports entertainment complex

Sacramento City Mayor Kevin Johnson, has admitted that it is no longer on the power of his constituency and the people of Sacramento to decide whether or not the Sacramento Kings franchise owners, the Maloofs will ultimately relocate the franchise to Anaheim.

However, Johnson insisted that his administration will still pursue efforts on building a new sports entertainment complex; with or without the Sacramento Kings.

    • 1985

Back in 1985, David Stern announced that the Kansas City Kings will relocate to the city of Sacramento. Maybe by the end of the season, Stern will announce again that the Kings will relocate to Anaheim.

what are you talking about? The last time Mike Bibby wore a Sacramento King Uniform was in 2008. After that for 3 years he was a Atlanta Hawk before getting traded to the Washington Wizards where he played for only two games as he bought out his contract in order to now play for the Miami Heat.

I am very pleased with the progress of rookie, Demarcus Cousins as Cousins proved his strong upside and potential came draft day. Cousins can play against any of the front-court players that the NBA can offer. Still, polishing on his passing skills and defensive awareness are to be made and entailed.

While I am also pleased on how efficient Marcus Thornton on the offensive possessions, something that Tyreke Evans could stand to learn and play more within the permitted boundaries of the team's offensive structure.

I really would like to see DMC take it strong to the rim more often, though. Considering how big/strong he is, (from what i've seen) he goes has a tendency to get too "cute" sometimes, going with layups and short quasi-jumpers inside instead of just going up strong like a true PF/C would, thus the low FG%. I think part of it is he's too skilled for his own good (ie, he can get it done with option 2 and 3 that he forgets that his option 1 is downright unstoppable... a la Vince Carter when he was still in his physical prime but started to develop a pretty solid jumper too, which he eventually over-used and became his primary... or like C-Webb back when he was a beast down low, but still took a ton of midrange jumpers).

I also think part of it is... dude has NO hops, so he can't always explode to the rim. I think he needs to drop 10-15 and work on his explosiveness, as well as releasing the ball at it's peak.

And is it just me, or does he look more like 6'9.5/6'10 than the 6'11/7 he's often quoted as? Pau is a legit 7, and I remember seeing them standing right next to each other and thinking DMC looked at least 2 inches shorter than him.

And just to clarify, I love the guy and I think he's got a world of potential... I just don't wanna see it get wasted!

One of the things he will learn eventually I hope is when and where Cousins opt for the jumpshot, the post moves from back down, the post moves from facing up and the short drive towards the rim.

There are times when cousins can get "lazy" on the offensive end as he results to jumpshots after being passed on the offense when he is calling for the ball or when he makes an unsuccessful play to the rim resulting to either a turnover or an offensive foul.

Quite true, Cousins could use a drop of 10 to 15 pounds. I would look for him to work on it during the off-season; provided that he develops the work ethic or motivation. Also, his jumper needs a bit of polishing where yes, Cousins releases the ball a bit early as if the ball is being flailed. Releasing the ball on the peak of the jump, as what you have pointed is one of the basics of the jumpshot as it does affect field goal percentage to an extent.

Cousins is a shade below 6'10. Height padding is what it seems.

So given the lack of height and explosiveness, along with his tendency to sometimes play away further away from the basket, I see him more as a PF who can play C if needed... but not a true C. Thoughts?

I haven't seen this comparison echoed much, but he reminds me a lot of Zach Randolph. Similar body types, and skill-sets (though Zach is obviously more polished/experienced... but DMC has more potential IMO). I remember Zach used to struggle with his FG% for similar reasons as DMC (trying to play like a SG/SF), and he was able to straighten that stuff out by using his strength and refining his post game ... hopefully DMC can do the same. I'd rather he be a PF with some 2/3 skills, rather than a SG/SF trapped in a PF's body.

Indeed I agree, Cousins is a natural PF that can play center as he seem to complement Thompson when Cousins plays as a center or can be paired up with Dalembert when the Kings need to entrench on the half court defense game as Cousins then plays PF while Dalembert is at center.

That I agree, your Randolph comparison is dead on. It is Cousins' ball handling, mobility and footwork as what gives Cousins a good potential.

True. Evans despite practicing during the off-season still needs a lot of refinement on his shot technique and Evans still takes so many unnecessary fade away shots. At point guard, Evans is far too aggressive as Evans it seems can not navigate a simple pick and roll or a simple pick and pop play. A screen for Evans is a green light to drive and see what happens.

Evans is a slashing shooting guard at best and needs the ball to be effective. Talent wise, I have no problem with Evans but when it comes to adhering to the offensive set, that is where Evans still needs to move or make a play without the ball.

                      • Shooting guard Tyreke Evans will see a specialist tomorrow about the condition of his left foot's plantar fasciitis. If Evans is cleared, the cast will be removed and Evans could start basketball activities again.

                              • NBA Retrospective: Rochester Royals

2011 marks Sixty years that the Sacramento Kings' drought for an NBA Finals appearance and last Championship was accomplished. The Kings were known as the Rochester Royals back in 1951 and the team had the record of 41-27 which was good enough to qualify for the playoffs.

The Royals, coached by the hall of famer Les Harrison made do with his lineup and lead by long and tall center Arnie Risen alongside another hall of famer guard Bob Davies. Eventually, the Royals would meet Fort Wayne on the first round and the Royals would prevail 2-1 to move on to the Western Division Finals to meet the defending NBA champions, the Minneapolis Lakers.

The Royals would take advantage of an injury plagued George Mikan to win the series 3-1. The Royals would meet the New York Knicks on the NBA Finals with the Royals winning the first three games and was looking like heading to a sweep, but the New York Knicks won three straight games, setting the stage for an epic game 7. The Royals would beat the Knicks 79-75 to clinch the title.
