  • Emotional Players who need to tone it down

With the New Policy for Intolerance against Overt Demonstrations or Player Protesting towards the referee that warrants a technical foul; instructed on the officiating introduced by the NBA, we have seen names like Kevin Garnett ejected out of a pre-season game due to arguing to a referee for a call and Grant Hill too was ejected for the same manner. The bottom line is for teams not just the Sacramento Kings to adjust to the new rule or face the penalties and sanctions.

Being called for a Technical Foul on a tense close game will be decisive. Here are the Sacramento Kings players who better adjust and fast:

Demarcus Cousins - Very emotional player and at times out of control due to being young and cannot restrain emotions in check. Cousins could be called for a lot of T's this season if he cannot keep his emotions in check.

Tyreke Evans - Got thrown out of the game against the final regular season game against the Lakers for excessive arguing. He learned his lesson and it would be prudent to place that in reminder. Let us see how Evans have made good of his promise of being a mature leader for the team.

Omri Casspi - Also a very emotional (passionate player) his signature of punching the air or swinging the arms as he walks away was caught with a Technical foul against Golden State Warriors pre-season game.

Samuel Dalembert - Bouncing the ball too hard after a non-favorable call is his mannerism when upset with a call. Sadly that will be very liable to a technical foul.

I believe the NBA is right on penalizing protests given to the referees which has been a wide spread habit in the NBA. Which is really a futile in retrospect as I have not seen a call reverse after a successful persuasion by a player. Overall, it promotes the continuity of the game and professionalism on all players.

    • Kings Focused As Preseason Winds Down

Kings Focused As Preseason Winds Down

Returning from a dramatic victory over the L.A. Clippers on Tuesday night, the Kings appeared energetic and tuned-in during Wednesday evening’s practice.

“We looked really good—both offensively and defensively,” Coach Paul Westphal said. “I think it was one of our best practices.”

Considering the subject matter of the night’s proceedings along with the proximity to the regular season, the team’s level of concentration and engagement couldn’t come at a better time. The Kings face the Utah Jazz in the teams’ preseason finales on Friday.

Following Sacramento’s stagnant offensive production to open Tuesday’s game, Westphal decided it was time to re-imagine the team’s offensive sets.

“We really went back to the drawing board on our offense today,” Westphal said. “It was bad last night in the first quarter, but I think we’ll see it getting better.

“I think it’s mostly that the timetable for the offense we have installed was probably a little bit off. I think we simplified and got back to the basics a little bit.”

Aside from Tuesday’s offensive lessons, the game’s closing moments provided another valuable teaching moment for the Kings coaching staff. Hoping to compete for the Playoffs this season, the team will need to be able to finish the fourth quarter strongly.

“To get where we want to go, hopefully we are going to be in a lot of close games and we are going to have to win a lot of close games,” Westphal said. “Last year we didn’t have a knack for that and another step in our development will be being able to win those close games.”

After Tyreke Evans’ game-winning lay-up, players’ confidence in each other is growing. Throughout the preseason, a variety of players have proven their ability to contribute on the court while relishing their roles.

“(The team chemistry) feels pretty good,” Evans said. “Omri (Casspi) came in and played great last night. Carl (Landry) came in and played some big minutes. We looked pretty good. Hopefully it continues into the regular season.”

In the aftermath of Wednesday’s practice, veteran Francisco Garcia bonded with Evans and DeMarcus Cousins during an amusing three-point and half-court shooting contest. Surprisingly, the Kings rookie was the first to make a shot from center court—a jumper that he followed by sinking a circus shot from the corner of one practice court to another.

Enjoying the moment, the reigning Rookie of the Year and the ROY hopeful combined to conduct a joint interview—posing as media members by asking each other questions about embarrassing defensive moments from the previous night’s game.

“We are having fun,” Cousins said. “This team likes to joke around with each other a lot, and I believe it helps build team chemistry. If we continue to build it we’ll be real close and it’ll carry onto the floor.”

With Opening Night of the regular season approaching, the Kings high level of energy and focus is a telling sign of things to come.

      • ESPN - Reke's projected stats

ESPN's John Hollinger has Tyreke slated for 24.3 pts, 5.4 reb, 6.5 ast per 40 min, and has a mini scouting report/outlook for him: http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/p...aily-dime-live

As much as I'd like to think he's gonna put up 26+/7/4 this year, Hollinger's line of 24/5/6 is probably more realistic.

        • Round Up

          1. My Sacramento Kings will open the NBA 2010-2011 Season against a young Minnesota Timberwolves Team. If we can out-rebound them and garner second chance points or second chance opportunities via offensive rebounds, we can win.

          2. Samuel Dalembert though recovering from an injury, is still active with the team and is mentoring rookies Whiteside and Cousins.

          3. Tyreke Evans will not play against the Minnesota TImberwolves as Evans is sidelined by serving a 1 game suspension.

The Sacramento Kings entering the season which was doubt as a promising ones on which the team has the chance to showcase its young talent that has been building from the last three years starting with draft pick Jason Thompson on the NBA 2008 Draft and then followed by the draft picks on the 2009 Draft by picking Israelite and former Maccabi Tel-Aviv player Omri Casspi and Tyreke Evans who later on went to average numbers of 20 points per game, 5 rebounds per game and 5 assists per game on the pedestal of Robertson, Jordan and LeBron James. Evans went on to win Rookie of the Year for the NBA 2009-2010 Season.

Fast forward 2010 on the NBA 2010 Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected former Kentucky Wildcat center Demarcus Cousins as the fifth overall selection on the first round. The Kings then selected shot-blocking selection Hassan Whiteside out of Marshall University. With the recent acquisition of Carl Landry from a mid-season trade with the Houston Rockets and the acquisition of center Samuel Dalembert from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Hawes and Nocioni; the Kings had front-court depth and it is a potential front court of the future that will compete for the NBA's best hopefully someday. Last season, the Kings front-court consisted of Spencer Hawes, Sean May, Jason Thompson, Jon Brockman and Car Landry; on paper, the personnel assembled seemed to be the worst of the NBA's front lines; but the Kings did manage to be 12th overall in the league for the category of rebounding.

Enter Training camp and a number of promising talents were invited to the Kings' camp, the likes of Marcus Landry (Carl Landry's brother), Eugene "Pooh" Jeter Antoine Wright, Darnell Jackson, Sylven Landesberg, Luther Head,Tyrese Rice and among others; after the cuts were eventually made, Head and Jeter remained.

The Kings mixed with young talents and a couple of savvy veterans, as well as cap space, were in the right direction despite fears of the team relocating to another city where the California Expo refused the proposal of the Maloofs to swap venues and there was no budget to build on a new arena. David Stern gave a vague ultimatum of 1 year. The worries set aside, this season is make or break on a positive tenure.

Entering the Season, the Kings faced the Minnesota Timberwolves without Dalembert as the latter was recovering from an injury and minus Tyreke Evans who was serving a 1 game suspension due charges of reckless driving and over-speeding accounts. The starting lineup consisted of Cousins, Landry, Greene, Garcia and Udrih on which the Kings managed to win on a tight contest, barely getting the victory via a 117-116 win.

Rookie Demarcus Cousins had an impressive debut by scoring 14 points, hauling 8 rebounds and a showcase of his passing skills, added 5 assists to his night's tally. Cousins was 5-10 in field goals and was 4-6 from the foul line despite having 5 fouls and finished the game without fouling out.

Minus star Tyreke Evans, the veteran guard Beno Udrih and the veteran forward Carl Landry carried the team by scoring 16 points on which Udrih added 6 assists on part of his starting role as the team's point guard. Landry starting at power forward scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds in account. Another veteran, who started at shooting guard in place of Evans, was Francisco Garcia, who was limited from last season due to nagging injuries. Garcia scored 22 points on 7-12 shooting and went 2-2 from the three point lane and managed to convert 6-6 on his free-throw attempts.

Donte Greene starting at the small forward had 7 points on a night he struggled as Greene was 1-7 from the field and was 1-4 from the three point lane as well as struggling from the free-throw department with just a 3-7 conversion. Greene did manage to get 7 rebounds and 2 assists despite his night's struggles.

Off the bench, the sophomore forward Omri Casspi scored 10 points and Head, despite a training camp invitee and was signed with a Non-Guaranteed contract added 14 points via 3-5 field goal attempts and went 1-2 from the three point lane and was almost perfect from the free-throws by making 7 out of 8. Jason Thompson, off the bench added 6 points and 6 rebounds.

Up next is the New Jersey Nets.

I view it in another perspective, where Sacramento can be really good if Evans plays the leader they are hoping him to be. Without Evans, the Kings are still a good team.

actually, Sacramento did play better when Evans was on the bench last season, and that's not a personal opinion, that's a fact, There are stats that prove it.

That is true but I think the fault lies with both the player, Evans, and the coaching staff/organization as a whole. The King's organization has a permissive attitude towards Evans, even over promoting the whole 20-5-5 thing late last year.
My belief is that if the coaching staff reeled him in a bit and taught him how to play within the team's structure more often then it would benefit everyone.
I think this has happened with a number of talented players over the years- Jordan early in his career, Kobe mid career and even Lebron the last few years too. They are exceptionally talented and if they are not taught to play within a structured system and to integrate their teammates more often what ends up happening on half the plays is the star gets the ball and everyone stands around watching him do his thing.

                    • I don't see the Kings trading Evans anytime soon.

this win just show how good a team Sacramento is without Evans.
When he doesn't play the whole team plays a lot better
Winning a close game against the T'Wolves doesn't make us a good team at all. I'm not celebrating on that one.

actually, Sacramento did play better when Evans was on the bench last season, and that's not a personal opinion, that's a fact, There are stats that prove it.
Lewis, kindly help me out with this, I have made my research about this interesting topic and found the following to which I could explain to what I am able to atleast. Kindly give me more stat sources if you don't mind.

On the start of last season when Evans was on the bench and the starter was Kevin Martin, on a span of Oct. 28 to October 31 (on the span of games against OKC, NOH & SAS) the Kings lost their first three games in a margin of 14.8pdf as the stat sheet dictates that the Kings scoring were at that time an NBA low 89.8 ppg as well. When Sacramento Kings head coach Paul Westphal relegated Evans in the starting lineup, against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Kings' scoring hiked at a spike of 41.2wta on which gave a 127-116 win against the Grizzlies. On the span of November 4 - November 14, the Kings won 4 games in a row averaging 107.5 ppg in which Evans was a starter on those games as compared to the span of Oct. 28-31 where the team made substantial improvement via scoring in the norms of a spiking 19.5wta-df.

On Nov. 17 against the Bulls, where Westphal had to limit Evans' minutes due to a tweak in the ankle, the Kings lost 87-101, again the scoring fluctuated by a margin of 21.1 wta-df as well as the assts and rpgs slumped to around 4.9 wta-df and 5.3wta-df respectively.

After three days of rest, Evans was back in the starting lineup and on a span of Nov.20-23 despite losing to Dallas, Houston and Memphis, the Kings ppg hiked to 104.2 a significant rise as compared to the statistical fluctuation of the earlier performance; their rebounding and assists rose to 5.6 and 5.7 ratio which was a statistical leap against Chicago where Evans was on the bench and despite the losses, the Kings had better statistics than before.

Nov.25-Dec.2, the Kings went on to a 4 game winning streak against NY, NJ, IND and NOH with a pdfa-opp of 6.7% and averaging a season high 110.1 ppg as well as the team shooting a season high 41% compared to the 38.3 clip when Evans was still grappling the system. Dec.5-30 the Kings went 5-14 and that was when the time of Martin having a season low 13.7 ppg and his fg% dropped to 33% as his TOs was around 4.3pg and the realization was that Sacramento was not big enough for Martin and Evans.

Jan.1- Jan 09, the Kings fell to 1-5 due to losing close games but still maintained the average of 104.7 ppg and shooting 41.2 fg.

Jan 12-16, Westphal limited the number of Evans to restore Martin's grove and the result was a scoring average of 86.5ppg and shooting 34.6%

January 18- February 17, the Kings went on to average ppg 97.5 ppg and when Martin was traded in Feb. 26. March 20 when Evans suffered a jaw injury, Evans did not play against the Clippers, the Kings won 102-89, again, against the Clippers. But on a span of March 22 - April 6, the Kings, without Evans lost all the games by averaging a 88.7 ppg which was a far flung from their season high avergaes. The rebounding and assists as well as the fg% dipped. When Evans returned, the team's overall stats returned to the norm of 107.3 ppg, 42.rpg as well as shooting 37.5%. From 24th in the league in rebounding, they finished the season 12th in rebounding.

20-5-5 was sweet and the Kings can actually win games with Evans. Without Evans, they were even worst than the Nets last year.
