The Junmar Fajardo Thread

ok, thanks. understood why he has his own thread...but that doesn't change my stance about his talent and potential. ;) i have expressed my opinions and thoughts in a calm and civilized manner...i'm not a hater, just a skeptic wondering what all the fuss is about. a lot of guys here tag him as the next best bigman of the country, and surround him with a lot of hype and mystique. that already raises a lot of arguments and questions. why did he only win a title when greg was shipped out? why couldn't he tow his team to the pccl title despite being tourney mvp? if he is that good (as what people who praise him say he is) then he should have done those things.

This is a long shot, but would I be justified in saying that you wouldn't want a Charles Barkley thread just because he didn't win any championships?

As nardy said, he's a good topic of discussion. He's had good games against UAAP and NCAA teams, and it was clear that no one could contain him one-on-one. Is it hype? No, those are real, tangible results. I myself had my reservations about him, but started believing he's for real after he dominated the Blue Eagles frontline last year.

Is he the next best big man in the country? Personally, I think Slaughter (getting teammates involved) and Taha (athleticism and defensive timing) are slightly ahead of him. But those three are way ahead of the other players of similar height (6'7" above) right now.

That's why it's called a forum --right ?

This an avenue for skeptics, observers, seasonal fans etc. for airing their criticism, concerns, suggestion and praises. After all, we have an inherent right called Freedom of Expression, though it may not be absolute, but still doesn't prevent us from posting here as long we didn't violate any rules.

Like we said, we remain skeptical on his talent, the games he played here in Manila doesn't insinuate anything. He may had shown brilliance of flashes, but he is the only offensive weapon of UC, so him not scoring would have been disaster for them. His skills is yet to be unfold in a higher level of competition.

And the argument him being trained by the best bigman in our country doesn't suggest anything at all. He doesn't have any proven product in the pros or in any competitive league. And, i guess, most of basketball fanatics know that the Era of Dominant Centers is long since gone. So right now him being the best bigman that could change the landscape of the basketball scene is just an assumption.

And lastly, as we all said, he doesn't deserve all the hype yet.

I think you are a good scout or coach compared to the coaching staff of SMB or Coach Toroman and others who withnessed first hand Fajardo playing. They were really impress kaya guston nila kunin si Fajardo to be part of the team they are coaching. Pero ikaw, taas ng standards mo. :D:D:D

I guess, most of you sub-consciously want to see our NT to compete in the Olympics & Worlds and covetously wanted see a Filipino play in the NBA. If i remember it correctly -- some even said that we are one of the best in Asia or he's just having an 80' or 90'ss PHL basketball scene hangover, -- i can't tell.

And add to that we have a far-fetched surreal goal, and that is to bag the lone Olympic slot. Lame excuse or self-abasing is to demand respect from powerhouse nations.

Knowing these facts, I need to raise the bar higher and par it with superior leagues.

LOL. Ok you'll be the next coach of our very own RP team. I hope you can get the players that can pass your standard. How many naturalized player do you need? a class "A" nba players or a journeymen? :D

Anything sensible to say ? Are you raising the white flag already ?

You are really funny. I am just trying to know how high your standard of a good big man. If it is an NBA caliber players, Euro or much better you can name the best big man in the Phils that you think you want Fajardo to face so that you can say that the guy can play. Who?

then what's the point of touting him the next big thing in the Philippine basketball if he can't match Euro or NBA players skillwise?

Remember when we last compete in the Olympics and World Cup, our bigmen despite being undersize stood their ground against taller and heftier counterparts. I don't see any reason why we can't repeat and surpass their accomplishments.

or maybe.... there are things that my feeble mind failed to comprehend

LOL. Now i knew it. Kaya pala taas ng standard mo eh gusto mo pala maging Pau Gasol si Fajardo. Not even the best big man in China ( except of Yao ) can be labeled as a good NBA material. Who do you think is the best bigman the Phils have that can compete tooth and nail with this euro and nba players? You can include the pba and our smart gilas team? Who?:D Nangangarap ka ata ng gising. If you are trying to contest that Fajardo is not that good, sana man lang you would want to compare him 1st to a local at hindi ka mangangarap ng gising na may pinoy na kasing galing ang mga taga NBA. :D:D:D

You're not getting the point.

I'm only referring to the comparable skill set and fundamentals which he and current ballers lacks

Labo mo kausap. Before, you are comparing him to be the next Sam Eman that only have height but not the game. Now that I have given you examples that he could be better than Eman, you want him to be as good as the NBA players. Ano ba tlga kuya? :D:D:D

Ok ! My generation : Benjie Paras :D
Pweh, babaw mo chong. I want to argue with you with this. He only dominated coz that time, only a few centers in the PBA is as tall as him. Fernandez and Guidaben are already aged that time. Just what you are saying, he is playing against the midget tha is why he dominated the game. Kuha mo? Sayo na rin nanggaling yan.

And same with JunMan Fajardo.

There's no dominant center in the CESAFI that can match him that's why he dominated the game. And saying that he's good or the next big thing is inconclusive.

That the same case with your best skilled bigman Benjie " Kanan lang magdribble " Paras which you consider the best prototype of a bigman. Right? LOL. Eh wla ngang mid range shot yun eh, puro inside game lang ang laro. I just realized what kind of basketball you have been seeing. Tatang, 2011 na po tayo ngayon, its a different era of basketball.

in the history of philippine basketball, did we ever have a 6'9 and above player with this footwork and timing?

... and yes, he just learned to play ball in college.

Wag mo na lang ipakita yan video sir Manu. He will just say that he dominates the Cesafi coz midget center is guarding him. But if you will give him an idea that he dominated rabeh and the rest of ateneo bigman, he'll answer again that it was just the strategy of the coach to tire out fajardo that is why he scored a lot.

im showing him his footwork because sa footwork, it's either you have it or you don't and this is regardless of the height of the defender. look at his spin moves, very refined. hindi pilit.

if he's just all height, then he'll just be contented shooting it over the smaller defender, but he uses his skills to out-position his defenders.

Well, ganun naman talaga.

If you can't stop him, then exhaust him. If you watched his last game in PCCL, he really looked worn-out. It's just a common strategy written the famous book "Art of War ". You should do some reading about devising strategies (e.q English Lowbong, Vietnam Fox Hole and Guerilla tactics, Israel 6 day war etc.)

But as we said, him being the best bigman is inconclusive, and the games he played in Manila doesn't insinuate anything -- none at all.

LOL. dami palusot. Why are we talking about war? Should Fajardo need to train this warfare strategy that he should not score a lot so that he will not tire out? LOL. No one is saying he is the best bigman right now. This thread is made to follow his development. I think you are the only one who keep on saying that. May pa " inconclusive ka pang nalalaman. Angats mo chong. :D
