I think coach Rajko is really developing the other players in the lineup..Ballesteros,Barroca,Baracael(all b's huh?),Lassiter and Tiu.And those guys are really proving themselves that they deserve a slot in the team..Come those players that are not in the lineup now..Al-Husseini,Aldrech and Chris Lutz this team will be more competitive.

Can we call them our own version of killer "B"s? I think we should call JV Casio, "J-Shock" for JV instead of "G-Shock".. you can call it the "J-Shock" attack..

what I like with the National Teams which the SBP has formed (GILAS, Nokia U16 Boys, Careline U16 Girls and Discovery Womens) is that they have a different attitude than their predecessors, these teams enter their international games very composed and showing no fear. You can see on the eyes of the players of our past teams fear whenever they go into court and would be facing players that are much taller or bigger than them, our opponents then takes advantage of this. But now it has changed, this is a very big transformation for our teams and this would lead us to better results.

This mindset is what separates winners from losers. If you start fearing your opponents, the game is already over.

I always reading here in Interbasket for almost 3 years.Hirap kc

I think they (one of lebanese fan here) called JV Casio as "G shock"
because casio is a watch which is G shock is a trademark.

Before the start of the Dubai International Basketball Tournament this 2010:

Coach Rajko Toroman is awed by the opposition but thrilled by the promise of tough competition the Smart Gilas Pilipinas national team will get from the 21st Dubai International basketball tournament here.

“I’ve never seen a tournament like this (in Asia) in the last 10 years,” said Toroman on the eve of Gilas’ opening game against Syria’s Al-Jalaa which was still going on at presstime at the Al Ahli Club here.

Nine of the 10 teams have three imports each except for Gilas, which will lean heavily on candidate for naturalization Jamal Sampson, Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter in the slot.

“With the teams here, I will be happy if we could make the semifinals,” said Toroman.

But as of today:

SERBIAN cage mentor Rajko Toroman has fulfilled his promise to bring Smart Gilas Pilipinas to the semifinals of the 21st Dubai International Tournament and now he’s looking for something really big.

“We played with a big heart. But still, we’re not satisfied. We want to go to the finals,” Toroman said.

BIG WINS ARE JUST SUMS OF SMALL WINS. Those players we sent will never fear anyone in international basketball again, as they learn how to win in different countries with diverse playing styles and game-winning cultures. That's the gain that the PBA forever denied its national team players.

Riyadi Win 3 Straight in Opening Dubai Title Defence

After 3 games in the Dubai championship of 2010, the defending champions are looking as sharp as ever, even with a starter, Jean Abdel-Nour missing. Omar El Turk is providing a solid contribution in his place, Shawn Collson is shaping up to be a great 6th man in case of foreigners emergencies, and Nate Johnson is proving that he is the clear cut leader on this team after a year of sharing that title with others.

Riyadi kicked off the tournament with a quick start against UAE’s national team, while beating them easily by a difference that got down to respectability in the garbage time at the end. From start to finish Riyadi dominated, with CJ showing some great hops and Nate scoring inside at will. CJ set the tone in the first quarter with dunk after dunk, and that ended with a 9 point Riyadi lead. The second quarter saw Nate get in the mix, along with Joe Vogel who provided instant offense off the bench to score and hit threes, this pushed the lead to 17 at the half, 56-39. The rest of the game was simply time passing and clock ticking. Riyadi finished the third quarter up by 20, 78-58. However, the fourth showed a small spurt by the UAE national team, and the lead got down to respectability.

The final score was 95-81.

CJ: 26 pts 12 rebs 4 blocks
Vogel: 18 pts 8 rebs 2 blocks

The second game was against an old foe, Al Jazeera from Egypt. This is a team that fights until the end, shoots well and plays very aggressive basketball. The first quarter ended in a close score, as well as the second. CJ was having the complete opposite of his first game, he could not score, and committed many turnovers. As a matter of fact turnovers where a big part of why the game was so close and Riyadi did not open a big lead. During a big offensive push by Jazeera in the third, the score was opened to 11 points difference for the opposing team. Everything was going wrong at that time, and to make matters worse 2 quick fouls for CJ had him on the bench fouling out midway through the first. A time out by coach Fouad restored our systems with a new mode now with Sean at the point and Joe at center, with Matt who played amazing defense at the 4. Nate came in with a scorer’s mentality and Sean had a big hand in the come back as he had 7 assists and 10 points in the limited time he played. The fourth quarter was completely a Riyadi one, as the difference this time was increasing to our side, and the result was a second win.

The final score was 85-76

Nate 33 pts 12 rebs
Sean 10 pts 3 rebs 7 assists
CJj 10 pts
Omar 7 pts 1 rebs
Ali m 6 pts
Matt 12 pts, 13 rebounds



The defending champion’s road continued Monday after noon, with the third game of this Dubai Championship. This time the game was against Syrian team Al Wehde. The game was a complete blowout. Omar El Turk and Nate took over with long threes, and some stifling defense. However the game was not all the same, the first half ended with a small 7 point 47-40 Riyadi lead. But coming out from the dressing rooms was a completely differently minded Riyadi team. Wehde only scored 21 points during the second half, while Riyadi had an amazing 53 points half. This was fired up by 8 threes from Omar El Turk who finished with a game high 28 points, and amazing play by CJ Giles against probably the best center he has yet to face.

The final score was 100-61.

Omar had 28 pts (8-12 3pts)
Nate 23 pts
CJ 22 pts 8rbds 4 blocks
Matt 9 pts and 8 rebounds.

The next game is Tuesday afternoon against probably the best team in Asia, Mahram from Iran. This will be the real test for this year’s Riyadi squad.
