Italy started the tournament with a loss but then they have started to unearth their offensive capacity. Serbia knows what to do and they are like a machine already. It will be an interesting game for taking the first spot.

My vote goes to Serbia. Raduljica - Teo connection should make some noise, Serbia plays up to the level defense and will make Italy work hard for their shots. Serbia is doing well when they're dominating the glass and Italy in preparation stages loved to run offense without a single individual being out there for a rebound, losing rebounding to otherwise even potentialy weaker rebounding teams.

Chances for Italy are in Bargnani drawing up Kuzmić/Raduljica out on the lane repeatedly offense after offense, if persistent it could be possible to draw Raduljica out of the game due to defensive issues, Gallinari focusing all of it's strenght on Bjelica. He has the lenght and feet to make it a bit tougher for him, even if he is not some particulary great defender, not forcing up shots by individuals, finding a way to limit or at least try to make it equal in the rebounding department. Italy needs a way to compete with Serbia there, they obviously won't do that from shot selection, their 2nd, third guy in the offensive boards is risky with this Serbian teams, while in defense almost all 5 players should go for a rebound every single time, to keep hopes for a close game.

Game of the 1st round.

No Defense Team against Team.

Gallinari plays like insane. I think the time he chocks has come against Bjelica.

Serbia hands down. There's no way Italy can make their crazy shots against the serbian defence.Plus the Italian "defence" is gonna get punished really hard.

we will rest our starter and show how deep we are.

but we will lose, and would have lose anyway

It's better to lose on group stage against this Serbia than on eventual semifinal... :p

So it's good if Pianigiani rests some players like Gallo and Belinelli (more than 32 mpg for both)...

So Italy is in a first-seed battle against Serbia after beating Spain and Germany, huh? Not bad for a "no-defense" team, I see.

Bro, they made it this far on pure fire power...

Yeah, this kind of reminds me of our team's FIBA-Asia + WC run in 2013-2014. We weren't exactly known for defense back then in FIBA Asia, and we managed to get 2nd place and a trip to Spain for the 2014 WC with pretty much zero defense but loads of firepower.

But ofc, Italy with Gallinari+Bargnani+Bellinelli never gets beat.

It was only in the WC when we did buckle up on D, too bad our opponents are just too big and too strong for us.

I'm not sure about Italy's chances of getting out of the Round of 16 this year, though. Because 2 years ago, they almost made it to the WC but sadly finished 8th behind Serbia. If they could at least enter the Olympic qualifiers, it's good, but of course, it's much better for them to make it outright to Rio.

Anyways, may the best team win the first seed in Group B.

As with all teams relying almost purely on O (or very little on D), they can get far, but it heavily depends on factors like tiredness of key players or the fact that on some days the rim is just too narrow (and on some quite opposite :D). This Italy has a huge potential and I easily see them in Rio, maybe even with some medal here. But general rule is O buys tickets, D brings the rings. So when Italy clashes in KO stage with a team ready to harness their fire power that could easily be it for them.

before we started EC I was skeptical, and wrote that our goal was a ticket to Rio, but at the same time it was not surprising if we don't get it.

I stay with this, even now that we are fighting for the 1st spot in the group of death.

we spent a lot psycologically after match vs spain and germany. also, we havent a n.1 for this level. our problem is not we have no center. is we have no 1
cinciarini is a mediocre player. hackett totally lost his offensive impact in last 2 years.he lost his pentrating and shooting confidence.
