Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. III

Great initial group; but of course, even with any other draw, the SF/F is going to be tough.

We can handle New Zealand and we can upset France.

As for Canada...

My expectations are not that high in winning the tournament but at least please another world cup performance. Il be disappointment if we did not scare their balls out. Please Let our Jordan and Most dominant JF Filipino play. Another Ranidel like performance and More norwood.

SMC please cooperate. It's for the country...oh wait. They have a different mother country alright.

I just pray for Gilas to have the best line up. Castro,Parks Jr.,Clarkson,Blatche,Fajardo. Lets do this!!!

I don't think Park Jr should be consider in the best line up of our NT for OQT, maybe after couple of years more he might be.

My best line up for the upcoming OQT:

Castro
Lee
Romeo
Lassiter
Norwood
Clarkson
Abueva
RDO
Japeth
Fajardo
Slaughter
Blatche

Reserves : Chan, Manuel, Pingris, Rosario, Almazan, YDO, Espinas, and Tautua (Backup Naturalize)

parks jr can be considered around 2017 but not this year. same goes with wright.. they can play in jones cup with some cadets if they want to and if theirs asia cup then go.

I don't know if RDO will play again in international competition. With his back-injury, I doubt he'd risk playing in such a high level competition. Clarkson also is a question-mark, if LA will allow him to play. So here is my line-up.

PG: Castro, Romeo
SG: Lee, Lassiter, Chan (in lieu of Clarkson)
SF: Norwood, Abueva
PF: Aguilar, Rosario (in lieu of RDO)
C: Blatche, Fajardo, Slaughter

Reserves: Amazan, Pingris, Ramos

Rob Reyes works for MVP. I doubt he'd be as enthusiastic (and accommodating, as it's most likely he was called by the higher ups) if the pool was SMC backed.

But as I've said, some have sense of patriotism, some just don't give a damn. Let us just give players like Reyes the benefit of the doubt and see for ourselves if some ineligibles would ACTUALLY show up and VOLUNTEER to be a practice player, paid or not. Much better of course, if they do it pro bono.

Definitely agree! (Y)

The Lakers allowed him to play last FIBA Asia. If they allow him now, Clarkson will only need the green light from FIBA to play for us as a local.

A bit OT... RIP to the Big Difference... condolence to the family.

King Caloy was one of the Greats of Philippine Basketball.

I don't think RDO is coming back. Thanks for everything.
Also, RIP Caloy Loyzaga.

Bigs: Fajardo, Blatche, Slaughter, Aguilar, Almazan
Wings: Clarkson, Norwood, Abueva, Lassiter
Guards: Castro, Romeo, Lee

Rotation:
C: Fajardo/Slaughter
PF: Aguilar/Blatche
SF: Norwood/Abueva
SG: Clarkson/Lee
PG: Castro/Romeo

I chose to put Dray with Greg instead of at the starting lineup because JF works better with locals if the Senegal game is to be believed, and Greg's potential will be unleashed with the multitalented Blatche.

that was last year when Jordan still has a rookie contract. but this year would be different. he would get a multi-million contract and that would be huge insurance (premium) payment to shell out by SBP..can they afford? maybe or maybe not..

Stay tuned for the continuation of an all new chapter of the Gilaserye.

Abueva has been playing erratic in the finals......would Troy be a better fit especially if he improves more on his 3 pts

I would agree but others say Troy is stil too raw for high-level international ball. I say best train him in high-level international ball while he's young, or he might never get that chance when he gets older.

Troy is hyped at the moment....

Fajardo, Blatche, Japeth, Hopefully RDO, Norwood in well conditioned, Abueva, Lassiter, Clarkson (wish), Castro, Lee, Romeo, either(Slaughter, Almazan, Ping or Chan, Tenorio, Manuel)... Mostly these are also the names that are in the conversation right now.

troy has been very diligent with his training in gilas. i really hope he continues to be like that and improve and take his game farther at his young age. he really has the potential.

Yeah, but he's playing very composed. You almost want to see the old Abueva back with all his antics. Appears the lack of energy is affecting his overall game. With players like Abueva, you want them to act on instinct and not much thinking.

Still a better option than Japeth Aguilar though, so there's that.

I've been reading the PEX OQT forums, and I was shocked to read about the NT coaches actually preferring Greg over Junemar. Some of the posters there claim the reason why JF was benched in the ACB (they even played Belga over him then) and WC games is that the coaching staff hates JF's guts and wish they got Greg instead of him.

Granted, he did suck so bad in the Ukraine game Tab grilled him.

End result: Na-trauma yung tao, kaya hayun, ayaw nang sumali sa Gilas. Guy got so traumatized he just flat out refuses to join the NT for fear of going through the same ordeal all over again. So I really can't blame him. I really wonder why the Gilas coaching staff hates JF so much.

I understand height is might, but height is useless if you're slow and stiff.

If those rumors are true, then I really feel sorry for JF. He's made the best of what is given to him in FIBA Asia (yes, he did suck back then) and the Worlds (did so well in the few minutes he's given), yet the coaching staff doesn't even acknowledge that. We could have been 4-1 in the Worlds instead of 1-4 if JF logged more minutes than he did.

I really do hope all this is not true.
