For a tall import at 6'-10 and over, once they reach the early 30's to mid 30's their game starts to go downhill. The ideal age for a foreign big man to play in Europe is somewhere between early to late 20's! If you noticed, majority of the big men that once plodded the floors in the NBA either play in the Middle East or Asia.

Now going back to Marcus Douthit, he has a family (wife and 3 kids). After playing say 2 to 3 years for the NT and is replaced by a younger naturalized player. What happens now. It would be difficult for him and his family to relocate again after acquiring citizenship in the Philippines. Marcus Douthit or for any naturalized import, are humans too and not a disposable commodity. They gave up their citizenship to play for flag and country. They must get something in return...something that is long term and beneficial to the person and his family. That is why the SBP should have a talk with the PBA or ABL regarding this issue. Maybe in the PBA they can make a special exception for a naturalized player to play as a local...something like that.

What is written on the contract, is it going to be a dual-citizenship for him? If its a dual-citizenship, I don't think it would be hard for them to relocate anywhere in the world.

They should continue on searching big guys. Douthit is decent but we never know what might happen next..

Somewhere in this thread said that its not a dual citizenship. One must renounce his current citizenship. I wish I could retrace back but I remember coming across that topic in this very thread.

Maybe it depends on the mileage of the player, how he plays, how he maintains his body.

think about shaq maintaining his body weight in his last season with the magic until, maybe he could have been so dominant and owned the nba the whole millennium.

btw, one very old import who really impressed me so much is david wood. he was not that talented but he was scrappy. he played heads up. if he were the same age as douthit, i would have chosen wood over the latter. of course, he couldn't play for RP Team since he already represented Stars and Stripes in the 1998 WBC.

Im sure that he will be taken care by the SBP,because if not then i dont think we will be able to sign others for naturalization. Remember what happened to Giles? SBP doesnt want that and im sure that the rest of Phil Basketball bodies doesnt want that scenario either.

Philippines tends to embrace people ( doesnt matter w/c nationality) who have contributions to the Phil. society wether it is sports, entertainment, history etc.. Im sure that if Douthit keeps his heads-up and behave he will be loved in this country even until his services have ceased. We never said no to those people who loved this country and opted to stay wether you are married or not married to a filipino. Who knows he will play in the PBA? that will raise the standard of play once again. The PBA had metamorphosized into a more competetive league than before because of the Philippines attitude to welcome fil-fors to enter the league that is why even the imports hardly score now than those early years of the PBA. I am sure that as long that he doesnt take those winding paths then he will be welcome here just like those people who are now a legacy and part of our Philippine History like Coach Ron Jacobs, Freddie Roach, Norman Black, Bobby Parks, Nicole, Apple, Travis Kraft etc.....I am sure that oneday Coach Rajko Toroman will be part of this legacies no matter what is the outcome of his coaching , wether we win or not we should support this people that are trying to help and contribute to our society. We should stop cursing people because we lose or falter. We lived in a different era now where the sport had gone into a different level at least SBP is trying to narrow this gap into a level where we can give them stiff competition then rise into another level where we can compete fot the crown. It wont be easy but it is achievable.

We should find some additional candidates for naturalization. Maybe 2 or 3 will do. MVP has an enormous wallet. Lol.

Chris Alexander should get an invite from Gilas

He should be the top candidate for naturalization. A monster center.

Yeah, why don't we give Alexander a tryout?

SBP must not be contented with Douthit, especially now that he is injured.

alexander has shot blocking skills that we never say yet with douthit. we'll see in future games.

lol that enormous wallet is not for gilas alone..
that's maybe why we dont have the guys we liked before..if we can pay them like how mide-east countries does. i doubt they will still pursue their NBA dream.

Para kayong hindi mga Pilipino.

The 2010 Smart Philippine Invitational Challenge will be playing until tomorrow, Sunday, June 27th at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

This is the last chance you'll see Gilas in competition here in Manila.

I request everyone here in interbasket who love Gilas to watch the games live.

I disagree sir,I think almost everyone here is a bit concerned and some maybe in panic mode:D We all love to see Gilas to be on the top of the podium a year from now.

For the nth time, Chris Alexander is already out of the picture since he already played for another country. It has been discussed over and over in the past. :)

Chris Alexander is a naturalized Spanish citizen but I'm not sure if he played for any national team.I'm not sure though if naturalizing him would be still possible.Maybe we should ask our legal experts here.

I am no legal expert but naturalizing him is very much possible.

section 15 paragraph 2 of the universal declaration of human rights states that "no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.

rest assured that international laws support this idea of changing your nationality more than once.

as per our local laws, i am happy to report that having been naturalized before is not one of the disqualifications for obtaining filipino citizenship. so there....
