2011 SEAG National Team

This makes the most sense from all the suggestions. The current U-18 team if it qualifies for the U-19 World Championship will need all the exposure it can get. Of course, we expect the team to be reinforced by Parks & Pate by then.

not so easy. how about if it would conflict with the sked of the uaap? paktay na! translation: dead lock! lol

i just realized that if we qualify for U19 worlds, the U19 worlds will happen first before the SEA games. most of our preparations will happen on Summer.
U19 will be held maybe between July - Sept while SEA games will be on October.

please correct if this is wrong.

u19 worlds: 30 June to 10 July 2011
seag: 11 November to 25 November 2011

For purposes of continuity, it would be nice if we could send our current u19 team. However, they are not yet even at a level where they can beat a full strength UAAP or NCAA team. Defending the SEAG crown will be too much to ask. Maybe they can get the core of the team for the SEAG, not the whole team.

The 2011 Shenzhen universiade is a good exposure tournament for our SEAG bound team. Unfortunately, it will be in conflict with the college season (8th of August till the 18th of August) and the SBP has not yet done anything regarding our membership with the FISU.

you know, they should try to ask Junmar Fajardo to join the SEAG team unless, he is also free to tryout for the Gilas team since CESAFI will be done soon. is Fahardo graduating in march next year ???

Small and quick. I think this would be enough for the SE Asian level.

My bad sorry, so the U19 Worlds happens before the SEA Games.. My suggestion is say Ateneo gets the UAAP title this year, lets form our national team from the core of the Ateneo champion team. This will be advantageous for Coach Norman. Then reinforce it with the best available talents in the UAAP and NCAA.

All i see from recent posts are all-star lineup again..

Ateneo’s multi-titled mentor Norman Black is set to be named head coach of the national team in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo’s multi-titled mentor Norman Black is set to be named head coach of the national team in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

A ranking official of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) said the 52-year-old Black was the top choice from a short list of coaches because of his achievements, particularly the past five years with the Blue Eagles in the UAAP.

“He will be named as coach of the national team,” said the source who asked not to be named as the 73rd UAAP best-of-three Finals is ongoing, which the reigning two-time champion Ateneo is currently leading opposite Far Eastern University, 1-0, after winning Game 1 (72-49) over the weekend.

SBP executive director Noli Eala confirmed that Black, who won numerous titles in the PBA and considered as one of the greatest imports ever to have played in Asia’s first play-for-pay league, is one of the top candidates with FEU coach Glenn Capacio.

“We’re not going to make any announcement until after the collegiate season. But we’re leaning on either Norman Black or Glenn Capacio depending on the outcome of the UAAP Finals,” said Eala.

However, the same source mentioned that Capacio has already declined the job and instead, offered support as part of the coaching staff.

According to Eala, he believes that Black is interested, but will need clearance from the Ateneo management should he be the one appointed for the post.

Eala also pointed to Black’s coaching experience, including a ‘Grand Slam’ championship he won with with San Miguel Beer in 1989, and a coaching stint with the national team during the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan.

That team, composed of the core of All-Filipino champion SMB led by Allan Caidic and reinforced by Alvin Patrimonio, as well as amateur standouts like Marlou Aquino and Kenneth Duremdes, lost in the bronze medal game against Japan.

Black is the third winningest coach in the 36-year history of the PBA with 10 championships, 9 with SMB and one with Sta. Lucia Realty.

The national team hasn’t lost the SEA Games basketball gold since 1991, defending its title seven straight times. The last RP team to win it came in 2007 during the Nakhonratchasima Games where the Harbour Centre backed Nationals – coached by Junel Baculi – won games by an average winning margin of 43.0 points.

The game was not included in the 2009 Laos Games. (Tempo Sports)

  12. Reil Cervantes, 6'5 center-forward

Nice lineup but who is Carlo Lastimosa?

@bhinov: "IF" eventually Ateneo win the UAAP season 73.. shoe in to be in Norman Black system is Nico Salva and Justin Chua, Buenafe.. I dont think Kirk Long is eligible and monfort is too small and too Flamboyant to be included:D...

just Add a Couple more of player UAAP players to add Depth...the likes of

Reyes (UE)
Paul Lee (UE)
RR Garcia (FEU)
Cervantez (FEU)
Romeo (FEU)
Camus (UST)
Andrada (Lasalle)

and Btw I DONT THINK SBP Would Dare to HIRE Glen Capacio as its Coach.. WIN or Loss just hire Norman Black.. at least i can Sleep soundly knowing Philippines can defend SEAG BBall for the 8th Times..

  10. Ray Parks, 6'5 forward
  11. Calvin Abueva, 6'2 guard-forward
  12. Reil Cervantes, 6'5 center-forward

I like this lineup, but most of all it would provide Junmar Fajardo the launching pad he needs acclimate himself with another team not named "Webmasters". This goes the same for Ray Parks as well who is itching to prove himself and showcase his talent for consideration to the Smart Gilas program one day.

Aldrech Ramos and Slaughter should also form the core of this team to ensure domination over teams in the SEA region.

Replace Baloran with Papot Paredes or Ian Sanggalang and we're off to crush them, I guess.:D

Since it is a Norman Black team expect a lot of height in this team the team's purpose is not only the sea games Bl;ack who is known to push big players to tyhe limits will try his luck to brings his mitts in nthe intl scene.

I expect Slaughter and Ramos to lead this team Slaughter to somehow Balance the Ateneo and National team stint

If the Kardoust formula works for Iran hopefully for Greg:D

Slaughter for National Team a big YES! but Slaughter for Ateneo a BIGBIG NOOOO!:p

Good Luck on Paul Lee when he overpriced himself and SMART GILAS Management did not bite, do you think he would lower his price in order to play at the SEA Games. :p

This guy is really more for the money. But we should respect that as each person has his own priorities and he just wants to make life better for his family.
