2011 SEAG National Team

it's exciting stuff to see our young players go against the men's teams of the region. the 1995 SEAG team comes to mind. didn't they brick their freethrows against Malaysia on purpose so that they wouldn't have to face Indonesia for the gold medal? :D

i think it's thailand. they didn't want to face them.

I think the other UAAP/NCAA team should not allow their best player from joining this SEAG bound Team. "Hello! madala na kayo sulutan din yan papunta"

Trans:

Ateneo will just scout some of the players and in the end will make a sulutan to get the said players:p just look at the case of Slaughter:o poor UV if only they could turn back time.

Good job for UC tho, they really read the minds of the SBP which stands for SUlutan Basketbol Ni Pangilinan:p:o

sorry, my bad. it was the '97 team. i think that 95 team was blowing out everybody.

players of that 1995 team were marlou, paul raymond du, webb, bal david, reuben dela rosa, rodney santos.

that 1997 team was coached by dong vergeire and they were castigated for that.

Hey bro, you can express your hate thru your sig. Sometimes its annoying na.

the 1997 RPteam to the SEAGames placed 7th in the 1997 ABC championships. The core of the team played for the pangasinan presidents under cong Dong in the MBA except ofcourse for Danny I (drafted by shell but traded to SMB in exchange for Noy Castillo) and Rommel adducul(manila metro star). Others were glen peter yap who was drafted by alaska and gerard francisco.

I remember the designated shooter of that 1995 team was Michael Orquillas and their rebounding demon that time was Mar Morelos. Jomar Rubi and Don Camaso I think were also part of this team.

In 1999, the Manila Metrostars became the first MBA team to banner a team in the Southeast Asian Games in Brunei. they made it after winning the national championship over the Cebu Gems. Coach Louie Alas led the RP Team to win the Gold Medal by beating Thailand. majority of the line-up were players from the Metrostars led by Adducul and Camaso and recruited some players from other teams.

yes. onie padilla i think was also a member of that 95 team.

some players of that 1999 team were chu chu serrano, gilbert demape, egay billiones, kerby raymundo, dela rosa, freche ang. i am not sure if nandy garcia and echano were also there.

i remember that 95 team quite fondly. The team was so dominant, i remember our guards (david, rubi, orquillas, du, webb et.al) were just pressuring and running opponents to death. Marlou took care of the paint ofcourse. the RP team (composed of the core of STAG PBL team) blew out every team it faced as far as I can remember.

And then after the game, the players will be mobbed by HS/college groupies.

i keep hearing jericho de guzman mentioned each and every time a team is going to be formed. how good is he really?we can't keep mentioning phantoms whose games we have no idea about and he hasn't been in a competitive basketball for a long while.

another thing, can someone really update us on gian chiu and how good is he really. his more academically oriented than most people think. and thats a factor whether he will be focused to become a better basketball player.height and potential is one thing. but skill is much more important. look at japeth. the guy has hops no doubt. but skill wise his development is way behind.so i just want to suggest to people who keep making up their fantasy teams to research first the names that they suggest if those players are really as good as advertised.

de Guzman is being mentioned because it is not common to find a 6'11 guy in his 20's and is Filipino. His potential was not fully harnessed as he went to a number of teams that have systems that does not fit a player more of his size. He finally found the proper coach in Richard del Rosario as Jericho is said to have improved a lot while under Coach Richard. For those who does not know Coach Richard, he was underachieving big man during his playing career unfortunately when he was finally being groomed to become the focal point of his PBA team, he suffered a career-ending vehicular accident where he broke his leg and forearm and suffered numerous lacerations on his face that needed more than 100 stitches to patch up. So Coach Richard knows where Jericho is coming from as he was that back-up center not really given a chance to shine but is only there whenever the star center is not available. He is giving Jericho all the opportunity and confidence in order for him to develop to a much better player.

Gian as per Sir Nardy is still recovering from a surgery to repair an injury or an ailment that this 6'10 20 year old was complaining about for sometime. Aside from that and his desire to become a Doctor, it is unlikely he'll consider trying out again for the National Team as there were talks in Canada and in the US that his family was not happy on not getting full reimbursement of the airfare and travel expenses they incurred when Gian joined the Gilas Las Vegas Camp in April or was it May 2009.

Never heard about the Richard del Rosario story..

Only heard about Jericho de Guzman here in IBN.. Let's hope he develops more under Coach Richard.. Hmmm just a question: Who can you compare his skill-set to??

THAT'S GIAN CHIU RIGHT NOW?! Wow! I still remember when he was still a chubby big kid form Ateneo HS and a still chubby freshman in college! anyway, let's hope that doesn't stop him from trying out for the NT.. He can be like our Marcus Ng.. Doctor-slash-basketball player..

i see. i'm just afraid that he will go the route of guys like ej feihl, raul dillo and samigue eman. big guys with potential that had limited skill apart from their height. so what you're saying now is it will take sometime before he becomes useful for any team. were injuries also a factor that has stunted his growth as a player? someone should sponsor him to a big man's camp in the US or have a foreign coach teach him fundamentals. i doubt we can teach him us much as they can. look at greg slaughter. its only know that we are starting to see improvements in his game.

as for gian chiu we have to stop dreaming that he will be part of any team in the near future. it's tough to force someone who does not have a basketball mindset to continue playing. we don't need ha seung jin type players who'll just drag our game down no matter how tall they are.

the tallest doctor in the Philippine History

Alec Christopher Kessler (January 13, 1967 – October 13, 2007) was an American college basketball player for the University of Georgia and later, as a professional, for the Miami Heat in the NBA. After his basketball career ended, he became an orthopedic surgeon.

Like Pau Gasol, these two want to become or became a doctor. There's life after basketball Gian.. So just play Basketball for now! lol:D Sayang!

sad to say his life as a surgeon was shortlived as he succumbed to heart attack at the age of 40.
