2011 SEAG National Team

His hands tied despite having trained the team of collegiate stars for quite some time, Melencio had to form another squad that had as last-minute inclusions an ex-pro in enforcer Onchie de la Cruz and the lesser known among the Codiñera brothers, Pat Codiñera.

this is wrong, its not Pat Codinera, its Harmon Codinera.

the thought of Calvin Abueva wearing a RP Team jersey makes me think that probably the antics of Itoy Esguerra as a National Player would just be child's play and we better expect a hell number of a riot or free-for-all when the BEAST get into the nerves of the Thais and Malaysians.

no that's a personal fantasy lineup for the SEA Games.

if it was me, i'd make the lineup as early as SEABA 2011 since we're already qualified for FIBA Asia, games would be competitive (not 30-point blowouts) and our boys get more exposure to international competition.

is it me or this thread should be in the long term pool thread

I do not want this team to be made for SEA games only

is it overkill? if you gonna include Slaughter and Douthit? :D:D:D

my killer roster

my killer roster

My Roster for the SEA games

C- Greg Slaughter 7''
F/C- Norbert Torres / Yousef Taha 6'8
SF- Ray Parks 6'5
SG- Mathew Wright 6'3
PG- RR Garcia 5'8

C- Junmar Fajardo 6'10
F/C- Ian Sanggalang 6'7
SF- Calvin Abueva 6'3
SG- Stephen Holt 6'3
PG- Keifer Ravena 5'11

F/C- Philip Paredes 6'6 / Justin Chua 6'6
G/F- Jeron Teng 6'3
PG Eric Salamat 5'9

Possible Additions:

F/C Brian Organ 6'7
F Nico Salva 6'4
PG Chris Banchero 6'1
F/C Brandon Rosser 6'8

I think this lineup looks overkill but it's an oppurtunity to let guys like Holt,Taha and Banchero to play in a Fiba-sanctioned tourney for the senior men's team.what if Banchero plays for Italy or Taha plays for Jordan..then we missed our chance on getting tall, quality players.

An all-homegrown lineup will be good for the SEA Games. I think it will be a waste of money if we'll invite Fil-ams playing in the States. A Collegiate selection plus talents from the U-18 Pool. I dont see any of the current players of Smart Gilas playing in this tournament.

We can choose among these players i guess:

UAAP: RR Garcia, Justin Chua, Eric Salamat, Alex Nuyles, Jewel Ponferrada, Melvin Baloran, Jeric Fortuna, Jeric Teng, Mike Silungan, Paul Lee

NCAA: Rome Dela Rosa, Kyle Pascual, Jake Pascual, Ronald Pascual, Ian Sangalang, Erwin Cornejo, Andrian Celada, Carlo Lastimosa, Kevin Alas

If we qualify in the U-19 Worlds in Latvia, i'd say we send our U-18 team for the SEA Games.

i respect your opinion guys. .
but,i agree w/ the concept of bhinov--no need for guys like parks, ravena, holt, ahanmisi, umipig or even banchero. .c'mon guys we are playing with SEABA team here.no need for them. we are forming this SEA games TEAM but it will not be our TEAM-B for sure. ..;)
just add guys who are taking residency this year.taha,organ,gallarza. .
just to expose them in the INTERNATIONAL GAME. .

Wishlist:

Torres
Abueva
Fajardo
Ravena
Parks
Sara
Garcia
Wright
Slaughter
Pascual K.

I will select also ELIUD POLIGRATES of SWU COBRAS and now for the CEBUANA LHUILLER......

I think its better if we tap those guys who played under Franz's U18 team. Its better to send U23 players in this tourney, after all theres a gap between U18 team and the Smart Gilas program (then add Mr. Buenafe too).

Core of this team should be

Ian Sanggalang
RR Garcia
Norberto Torres
Jeric Teng
Sam Marata
Kyle Pascual
Matthew Wright and
Ryan Buenafe

Black to Coach RP team in SEA Games

Ateneo’s multi-titled mentor Norman Black is set to be named head coach of the national team in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo’s multi-titled mentor Norman Black is set to be named head coach of the national team in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
A ranking official of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) said the 52-year-old Black was the top choice from a short list of coaches because of his achievements, particularly the past five years with the Blue Eagles in the UAAP.
“He will be named as coach of the national team,” said the source who asked not to be named as the 73rd UAAP best-of-three Finals is ongoing, which the reigning two-time champion Ateneo is currently leading opposite Far Eastern University, 1-0, after winning Game 1 (72-49) over the weekend.
SBP executive director Noli Eala confirmed that Black, who won numerous titles in the PBA and considered as one of the greatest imports ever to have played in Asia’s first play-for-pay league, is one of the top candidates with FEU coach Glenn Capacio.
“We’re not going to make any announcement until after the collegiate season. But we’re leaning on either Norman Black or Glenn Capacio depending on the outcome of the UAAP Finals,” said Eala.
However, the same source mentioned that Capacio has already declined the job and instead, offered support as part of the coaching staff.
According to Eala, he believes that Black is interested, but will need clearance from the Ateneo management should he be the one appointed for the post.
Eala also pointed to Black’s coaching experience, including a ‘Grand Slam’ championship he won with with San Miguel Beer in 1989, and a coaching stint with the national team during the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan.
That team, composed of the core of All-Filipino champion SMB led by Allan Caidic and reinforced by Alvin Patrimonio, as well as amateur standouts like Marlou Aquino and Kenneth Duremdes, lost in the bronze medal game against Japan.
Black is the third winningest coach in the 36-year history of the PBA with 10 championships, 9 with SMB and one with Sta. Lucia Realty.
The national team hasn’t lost the SEA Games basketball gold since 1991, defending its title seven straight times. The last RP team to win it came in 2007 during the Nakhonratchasima Games where the Harbour Centre backed Nationals – coached by Junel Baculi – won games by an average winning margin of 43.0 points.
The game was not included in the 2009 Laos Games

This makes the most sense from all the suggestions. The current U-18 team if it qualifies for the U-19 World Championship will need all the exposure it can get. Of course, we expect the team to be reinforced by Parks & Pate by then.
