the problem was the middle area of Ringside was reserved for FIBA-ASIA VIP Guests who failed to come in each game. So even if those seats are vacant, they cannot be sat at by other persons.
Then the middle area of the Lower Level were reserved seats for the Sponsors who did not come to watch. Again it looked bad as those reserved seating in both Ringside and Lower Level are the ones shown most of the time on TV.
Plus in the 1st three days we have a Typhoon which hit the Philippines that affected the attendance significantly . Traffic was really awful as some areas were flooded.
But in the last day of the Preliminary Group Stage, QuarterFinals and SemiFinals, we really showed the true Filipino Basketball Crowd.
And despite the Philippines not reaching the Championship Game, the Final Day the fairly good crowd only came out to watch the SMART GILAS-Al Rayyan 3rd place game upto the Al Riyadi-Mahram Championship Game. But it was a big let-down after 3 straight box-office days starting from the last day of the Preliminary Group Stage.
The number of Tickets per day were:
May 28 4,362
May 29 4,225
May 30 2,345 (SMART GILAS rest day)
May 31 4,486
June 1 5,724
June 3 6,266
June 4 7,526
June 5 2,755 (SMART GILAS played for 3rd place)
Full Capacity of PhilSports (minus those seats allocated to the LOC, Team Participants, Media, Table Officials and those seats removed) is around 8,100+.
