2011 22nd FIBA Asia Champions Cup [May 28-Jun 5 Philippines]

is it in US dollars? how many months in a season?

Yeah the figures are in US$.... The Iranian Super League this season started on December 23 and finished on May 23 so that's 5 months :)

So basically if Samad is making $450,000 / season that means he's making around $90,000 / month... Very impressive!!

Riyadi, Mahram, Smart Gilas, Al rayyan and ASU (need better imports and more chemistry) are able to beat any chinese, korean or japanese team! I consider them stop participating in the ABC is due to their weakness. They are unprofessional.
So what if this were true, (we don't know), so what?

First of all, Team A from League B beating Team C from League D doesn't mean B>D, it's common knowledge. Maccabi destroying Real Madrid doesn't mean ISL is a better league than ACB. Secondly you are not using the teams from your league! El Khatib is great, but does he play for Al Riyadi in FLB? Does Hamed Afagh play for Mahram in the Iranian Superleague? What about the Jordanians, how long did Abbas, Daghlas and Watkins spent with that club? Can you imagine Panathinaikos borrowing players from Olympiakos to play Maccabi? But this happens in Asia!

Bottom line: this is just a minor tournament and national federation use it as they please. Philippines is smart in sending an NT for the tourney. The most ridiculous thing about it is FIBA doesn't recognize the "Asian import" quota used in leagues such as CBA for such a tournament. Look at the KL Dragons, they had 3 Filipinos on the roster when they competed in the ABL but FIBA didn't allow them to use it.

Thanks for all the efforts and great work in the Asian Champions Cup Nardy!!!

I'm sure you and the rest of the volunteers sacrificed a lot of time and effort to make this a success :)

Was the event publicized like it should have in the Philippines?
As I know "Smart Gilas" isn't as popular as the PBA teams and not all their players are known that well to the Pinoy crowds...

Well in any way, yes games of FIBA asian champions cup in manila was
publicized at the back pages (sports section) of broadsheet newspapers and smaller papers but not on major tv networks. Somehow like what you wanna know, your right..smart gilas is not that popular unlike pba teams but some of their players are known to pinoy fans especially chris tiu. Besides the popularity of basketball in the phils is on the wane. Filipinos even the not so die-hard cage fans only stick their eyes on tv "religiously" when there's an NBA finals.

Thanks for the info.
Regarding Chris Tiu i'm guessing he's very popular not just because of basketball but also since he's been featured in commercials, has his own tv show, and even is a politician  :D

Yes..anyway this is something out of topic, would you believe our national football team Phil. Azkals is quite more popular now compared to Smart Gilas cage squad. Since the spectacular performance of azkals in vietnam, it has attracted national attention in the phils.,even given constant attention and hype by our two major tv networks abs-cbn 2 & gma 7. Funny thing is, all azkal players, except its fil-foreigner Phil Younghusband (most popular)..are still unrecognizable by pinoy masses.

You have no idea how long I LOL'd after reading this post.

Anyways, Filipinos have this bad habit of being showbiz minded even if the topic is not supposed to be showbiz. It's all about showing off.

Lets put it more bluntly..if Smart Gilas performed amazingly like Phil. Azkals at FIBA tournaments, beating powerhouse of asia like china, iran, lebanon and south korea, then gilas would have been on the same limelight what azkals have been experiencing now..

At the same time, if the Azkals started losing to powerhouses Japan, Korea, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Iraq, then they would be on the same ground as Gilas.

 Bandwagoners, don't we just love them?
