Congralutions to our Lebananese friends. The better team won the trophy.

Fadi showed he is the true spirit of lebananese basketball,he played big the whole tournament.

I'm glad that Iran's dominance is over, hope our guys are back down to earth now. You've got to respect the opponent and never underestimate them.

Congratulations Lebanon and Riyadi fans in particular, we finally brought back the cup home! Riyadi finally succeeded in getting the only trophy they missed!
We are now tied with Iran with 4 Asian cups each.

As for Fadi el Khatib, what can I say...the guy is a true legend! We sometimes thought his level was decreasing, that he used to be better younger etc. but it seems he is now at his peak of his career!!! 41 pts in a final game, that's HUGE!

Hats off!

Ah, I'm finally back...

Anyway, congratulations to Al Riyadi-Lebanon for winning the title...Fadi El Khatib is ageless...what a classic performance...

guys i download the match from alexei Nachrade but it seems that when i try to play it on windows media player, i can see no video, only hear the voice of the commentator:confused:
can anyone offer technical help here, i'd appreciate it very much :)

Alexei Nachrade has a great collection of basketball games but he's following up on just Lebanese teams... You can still check out his collection which is quite impressive below..

If you want something related to Smart Gilas you can check out RN Halawi's website http://www.rnhalawi.com/ (he used to post here in Interbasket quite often before but I haven't seen him around for quite a while...

To me, from the very first day i knew that Al Riyadi and Mahram are gonna enter the finals and i also thought that Al Riyadi is a better team in terms of chemistry and players Mahram on the other hand, although they also have a strong team seems they're out of sync when i watched them during the elims. If they had no Samb i think Gilas could have beaten them. The whole tournament was evident that Al Riyadi has the best team and talent.

Belated Congratulations to Al Riyadi for winning the FIBA-ASIA Champions Cup.:)

never even thought of downloading codec, actually up untill now i'd never heard of it:p

Kinda disappointing that there were no fans waiting for the team to welcome them at the airport

noooo there was a lot of fans ,but they can t be on the land of Airport only VIP s and big political persons like Saad hariri brother and others personality can enter there !! but outside this region Riyadi and lebanese Fans were huge !!and on wednesday they will make an Event in Manara Beirut Riyadi home court for all the Fans to cheer the win with Riyadi players !!

Good to hear :)

as i know ,that one Time 2 years 3 years ago ,Mahram Iran offered a big contract for Fadi El Khatib about 700-800 K to play with Them for a Season with a Home + Tickets travels but Khatib refused the contract ,he was playing with Riyadi these days ,he can t leave his Wife and his childrens so he decide to Stay here ,and also in all Khatib Negociations he Was Always prefering The lebanese Contract on Even European or Asian Contracts even if they were very high contracts !!That s because he can t stay away from Lebanon and and his family !!

I wished in 2003-2004 when Khatib received an NBA Contract from LA Clippers but than Sagesse didnt Accept to Realise him and they demand a Huge Ammount to Realise Khatib !!!

Top 3 SF/SG Position In Asia:

1)Fadi El Khatib (199-SF)(Lebanon)
2)Samad Nikha Bahrami (200-SF)(Iran)
3)Jean Abdel Nour (199-SF)(Lebanon)

somehow i kinda expected it'd be a fullhouse:confused:
i always thought filipinos were diehard basketball fans

the problem was the middle area of Ringside was reserved for FIBA-ASIA VIP Guests who failed to come in each game. So even if those seats are vacant, they cannot be sat at by other persons.

Then the middle area of the Lower Level were reserved seats for the Sponsors who did not come to watch. Again it looked bad as those reserved seating in both Ringside and Lower Level are the ones shown most of the time on TV.

Plus in the 1st three days we have a Typhoon which hit the Philippines that affected the attendance significantly . Traffic was really awful as some areas were flooded.

But in the last day of the Preliminary Group Stage, QuarterFinals and SemiFinals, we really showed the true Filipino Basketball Crowd.

And despite the Philippines not reaching the Championship Game, the Final Day the fairly good crowd only came out to watch the SMART GILAS-Al Rayyan 3rd place game upto the Al Riyadi-Mahram Championship Game. But it was a big let-down after 3 straight box-office days starting from the last day of the Preliminary Group Stage.

The number of Tickets per day were:

May 28 4,362
May 29 4,225
May 30 2,345 (SMART GILAS rest day)
May 31 4,486
June 1 5,724
June 3 6,266
June 4 7,526
June 5 2,755 (SMART GILAS played for 3rd place)

Full Capacity of PhilSports (minus those seats allocated to the LOC, Team Participants, Media, Table Officials and those seats removed) is around 8,100+.

Thanks for all the efforts and great work in the Asian Champions Cup Nardy!!!

I'm sure you and the rest of the volunteers sacrificed a lot of time and effort to make this a success :)

Was the event publicized like it should have in the Philippines?
As I know "Smart Gilas" isn't as popular as the PBA teams and not all their players are known that well to the Pinoy crowds...

Congratulations to Riyadi,

As well deserved title indeed & Al Khatib still proves again to be a legend in our basketball!

Two points i would like to talk about though:

  1. Riyadi wouldn't have made it without a player who's not in his roster! Unfortunately until this day, we are not able to create a competitive team who would go and nail down a cup by himself without the need of signing players from other teams just for the sake of this cup! I know it's legal, but there aint no pride in this! Want the truth? if it wasn't for Fadi's 41 points, Riyadi wouldn't have got the cup! probably have made it to the Finals but definitely not the cup!
What's the problem? We lack development! Imagine, up till these days we still couldn't develop a second Fadi, we still require services from other teams!!!

  • The Asian Champions Cup doesn't represents Asia! I mean, i wont admit an Asian Championship unless we got teams from the CBA, BJ League, PBA (not smart Gilas) & KBL participating in this championship!!! I would love it to see 2 seats from West Asia going to their favor! Seeing 4 teams from West Asia, 4 out of 7 in which the other 3 don't even hold a chance (Palestine, Iraq & Yemen) is definitely not cheering and kills the competition in West Asia in the first place!!! We need a stronger league and a better developped Asian Championship!

in Iranian players Samad Nik'khah earn 450k per season!
in imports Chris Williams earns biggest money this year 80k per month!! also Mahram paid 60k to Kaspars Kambala for 15 days!!!!!

is it in US dollars? how many months in a season?

Man every team in this tournament or previous tournaments couldn't won anything if it wasn't for the players they borrowed from there local rivals. It's not just Riyadi. Every year their are players coming to ABC cup with the rival team of its country and for the record they did this before we've realized that we can do it also.
It's not just we lack development everybody does. :D

Second no one told the Chinese, Koreans, pinoys...etc to start a league like they wish and violate FIBA's regulations.
If they like to have a league NBA style, they can but they can't play ever in FIBA tournaments.

FIBA was founded before the NBA by 14 years.

And by history FIBA rules. end of discussion :)
