WTH he ain't a rookie!!!!!! Played for Coach Franz' U18 team. That's why he's wearing green. Hehe >:]

enetred la salle in 2008 because of trimestral system of la salle school year 08-09 not COUNTED in his residency so become a 21 yr old rookie in 2011 thats what you get in UAAP rules

this was just posted on the previous page....

some are not back-reading and some are posting things which has just been posted.

that's what I am saying ..... they do not follow Forum Rules regarding posting ..... to avoid the same questions all over again and again and so on, they should backread first as topics they might intend to post could already been posted.

Just like Norbert Torres ..... majority of us knows that he already played in the U18 National Team of Franz Pumaren, that due to technicality he was forced to sit-out 3 years of residency before he was allowed to suit-up last season which means they made an error in the La Salle website or it is just outdated because factually he is not rookie.

Good point! hehehe! I really forgot that!

But what's the possibility that coach Norman adopts Chot's system? I mean not exactly adopting Chot's system but applying a system w/ some resemblance w/ that of Chot.

unless Talk N Text wins this on-going conference, its been some time since they were Champions of the 2011-12 PBA Philippine Cup and that's good enough reason to say there are changes that's needed to be done. I'll say the other teams had already caught up on what kind of system and plays Chot Reyes makes thru the continuous scouting they are making.

like what i've said even if you change coaches it is necessary to retain key players. These players will be familiar even playing a different play book or system so I guess there wouldn't be so much adjustment.Noting the case of the USA team not only they had the same coaching staff but they also had retained players like Bryant,Paul,Lebron,Anthony etc. guys like Love and Durant isn't new to coach K's system either.Look at Jordan, they basically came from the same club team(i just don't know about the recent lineup in the Olympic qualifiers) having 5 or 7 players from the club team but playing for a different coach in their pro league and of course Tab Baldwin for their national team.In Tnt's case this might be the most logical and practical thing because we all know that SMC teams does not want to get involved in the national team as of the moment. So I guess having Black or Chot to coach Tnt next season wouldn't matter much as long as you see basically the same faces on the floor this could even be an advantage using different play books if PHL's plays become too predictable.

With Chot Reyes, he depends so much on guards Alapag, Castro and Reyes but with Norman Black expect him to take advantage of the height advantage of Japeth Aguilar, Kelly Williams, Ranidel de Ocampo and Jared Dillinger in certain playing positions they are not playing right now. I would also will not be surprised that Black would start Castro ahead Alapag.

You have to recognize the different stages of NT team preparation to understand what is required for our NT. First all let’s be honest this is a team that will be leveraging of TNT’s core to jump start it rather than continuing Toroman’s Gilas I program. From reports the initial tournaments to participate in are the Jones and Stankovic cup to be held in the PBA off season. Honestly I see this stage of the preparations as more of summer leaque type atmosphere, where Chot will still be experimenting with a number of combinations. He said ealier that he intends to use these tournaments as some kind of tryouts. Therefore don’t be disappointed if you hardly see any resemblance of the rotation he will use come FIBA Asia 2013. At the end of the off season ideally Çhot should have selected more or less his 12 men with 3 alternates in case of injury (similar to US team set-up). It is important to name the 12 rather than keep a big pool of players guessing where they stand. And part of the reason is to focus on building that chemistry early with the 12. The NT then takes a break at least in terms of playing official games once the PBA season starts in Oct. (they can still do their every Monday practice however). After the 1st conference if the NT can play a few games or a tournament between the 1st and 2nd conference break that would be great. Then come the 2nd conference ( Feb? ) hopefully Doulthit can play as an import for TNT (6 to 8 core members of the NT) for the import flavoured conference. News reports have come out the PBA is planning to finish the season early to make way for the NT. So hopefully by July of next year the team can focus full time with it’s main rotation learning their roles and building that all important cohesion. With this schedule and set-up I think it is doable to have the team prepared enough ready for battle.

I have been monitoring the developments in other Asian Countries except for China, Jordan and South Korea, its only the last few weeks that majority of the Asian Countries are naming the respective players that would be training for their National Teams and like us have not decided yet on the Final Line-up. The National Teams of Jordan and South Korea were formed ahead as they played at the recently concluded Olympic Qualifying Tournament at Caracas, Venezuela. While China started training again several months after the conclusion of the CBA and named their Olympic Team only last July 10.

I cannot say we are that far behind in training as the Gilas 2.0 Elite Team made-up of PBA players had started practicing last June 6.

If its enough, I'll say yes. Winning the FIBA-Asia Cup and becoming the 1st Qualifyer for the FIBA-Asia Championship would be a good confidence builder and a very big bonus. But failing to is not a problem because I know ALL OF YOU will agree with me that it is impossible for us to fail to qualify for the 2013 FIBA-Asia Champion thru the 2013 SEABA Qualifyers.

I am telling you what is more important really is how the PBA would really cooperate next season. But if they'll just train EXCLUSIVELY for only 3 months, I think that would be a great mistake. Even though I like the SBP being diplomatic with the PBA, it should not just follow all the dictations of the PBA but rather express what is best for the national team program and maybe ask if they can meet halfway if they have different views about the matter.

PBA adjusts next season’s schedule to accomodate SMART-Gilas
Reynaldo Belen, InterAKTV · Thursday, May 24, 2012 · 4:53 pm

To show its commitment to the national cause, the PBA has adjusted its 2012-13 schedule this early to accomodate the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national program.

“We have already calendared our events for next year,” PBA commissioner Chito Salud told InterAKTV. “The league will start September 30, 2012 and will end July 28, 2013.”

According to Salud, that will give enough time for PBA players who are part of the national pool to practice with the team, which is scheduled to compete in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship. At stake in the biennial cage meet are three spots to the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2014.

The schedule for the FIBA Asia tournament has not been finalized. Last year, the competition was held from September 15-25 in Wuhan, China.

Salud added that pool players from squads that have already been eliminated would be free to join practice.

Incoming SMART-Gilas coach Chot Reyes named 16 PBA players to be part of the pool. Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, Ranidel De Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Ryan Reyes, and Kelly Williams of Talk ‘N Text, LA Tenorio and Sonny Thoss of Alaska, Enrico Villanueva of Barangay Ginebra, Gary David of Powerade and Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine have signed a letter of intent to join the squad. Other players named to the pool are James Yap and Marc Pingris of B-MEG, and Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, and Marcio Lassiter of Petron.

Reyes will also name a cadet squad of top amateur players to be part of the pool.

In an earlier interview, former SMART-Gilas coach Rajko Toroman told InterAKTV that PBA players joining the national team would need shorter time to prepare for a high-level cage competition.

“Even in Europe, players are also playing for their respective club teams and would only prepare for three months, so I think it would be enough time as well for the PBA players,” he said.

Yes they are although not yet full blast and not everybody is present all the time. Its more on familiarizing with each other, weight training, some skills and drills and practicing certain plays which they could use. As stated by Gary David, plays they are practicing are not exclusively those devised by Coach Chot but of other teams. David even recognize one play which Powerade is using.

On Chot Reyes plays, the TNT players are very helpful to the coaching staff as they are very patient guiding the Non-TNT players on how said plays are properly executed.

Big question: Denver Nuggets' JaVale McGee worth huge contract?

JaVale McGee averaged 9.6 rebounds, 8.6 points and 3.1 blocked shots in the Nuggets' seven-game playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers. (Hyoung Chang, The Denver Post)

The billionaire blogs.

About a week after the Nuggets acquired JaVale McGee from Washington last season, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis took to his "Ted's Take" site to take a swipe at the new Nugget: "Nene is under contract — he is secure — he is all about team success now — not about individual stats — this is what I am most excited about — a return to fundamental team-oriented basketball."

Those in D.C. felt McGee was more about McGee than D.C. You only had to look at McGee's celebration after notching a triple-double — while his team was losing — to understand Ted's take.

But in his couple of months with Denver, McGee showed maturity and, to use coach George Karl's favorite
word, "teamness." And now, McGee is a coveted free agent. The Nuggets are in talks about offering him a contract in the ballpark of fellow center DeAndre Jordan, the Clippers big man who signed for four seasons and $43 million.

It's a big gamble on a guy with a checkered past. But it also would be an investment in a guy with a future.

"He's a freakish athlete with, really, infinite potential," said NBATV analyst Greg Anthony, a former NBA guard. "What he has, you can't coach — physical tools. But what he needs, you can coach. And it makes sense with Denver, because you have George Karl there and he's as good a coach as we have in our league in terms of mental development, how you approach the game. That can be really beneficial to JaVale. And also the fact that you have a culture of winning.

"While the Wizards may have tried everything they could, when you have a roster without veterans or a culture of winning, it's really hard to teach a lot of what's necessary to become a winner in this league. Your environment has a lot to do with that."

McGee, 24, amazingly could end up as Denver's highest-paid player — Danilo Gallinari makes an average of $10.5 million per season — yet McGee started only five regular-season games for Denver. He averaged 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds. Still, Nuggets fans remember his great games against Andrew Bynum and the Lakers in the playoffs. In Game 3, with Denver down 2-0 in the series, McGee contributed 16 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots to a Nuggets victory.

In Game 5, with Denver down 3-1, McGee had 21 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots, helping the Nuggets stay alive.

After the Lakers beat Denver in Game 7, McGee said playing for the Nuggets "was the best experience I've ever had in basketball. It's just an honor to be a part of this team. This was a great team before I came, so I just tried to add to it. It's a great organization and coaching staff. They put me in more situations that were more suitable for my game."

But is he mature enough to be a big-money player? Can a team depend on him to be a winner for an entire season?

McGee is a restricted free agent, so the Nuggets can match any offer the 7-footer receives. If the Nuggets have enough money to pay him, why would they let him slip out of their hands, leaving a gaping hole in the low post?

"It's going to be very difficult to go out in the free-agent market and just land franchise players," Anthony said. "So if you have core pieces that you believe in, I'm certain there's a feeling among the coaching staff that his impact could be felt for many years in a positive way.

"I would assume their hopes are that he'll produce statistically far more than DeAndre Jordan did at this stage in his career. I think he has a chance to be a little further along offensively and defensively, potentially, he could be as good. He's going to get in that ballpark, there's no doubt about it. Bigs are always going to command a little bit more just because of the role and because there are fewer out there. There aren't many guys with his tools physically and his size."

Centers of attention

A look at some of the bigger bigs available in NBA free agency. Players can sign starting Wednesday.

JaVale McGee, Nuggets, 10.3 points, 5.8 rebounds per game (in 20 Denver games)

McGee could flirt with an annual $10 million salary. Portland and Indiana could be interested, according to TNT's David Aldridge, though the Nuggets can match any offer.

Roy Hibbert, Pacers, 12.8 points, 8.8 rebounds

Portland has offered Hibbert a maximum contract, but the Pacers might be a better fit for the big man. The Pacers can also match any contract.

Brook Lopez, Nets, 19.2 points, 3.6 rebounds (in five games)

The Dwight Howard-to-Brooklyn scenario is in flux, meaning Lopez could be returning to the Nets next season.

My bad, admittedly I'm not really familair or up to date with the local leagues, (i was invited to a Lasalle game when I visited last yeat but all the players were new to me) . But I'm curious what has the guy done for you to describe him as the next best big man ? BTW speaking of Franz Pumaren, that guy is one agressive recruiter. I had a High School prospect here (NZ) a few years back, and Franz was really hot on getting him, "wag ko raw sabihin sa iba " ;)

Define meeting half way, what would that be? As the plan stands currently even 3 months exclusvily is a stretch (Season ends July 28 and FIBA Asia at the latest will be held early Oct, that's just 2 months). I agree however that it's not simply the "exclusive practice time " e.g. 3 months prior to FIBA Asia. but it's what you do between now and FIBA Asia (one year period). And I must emphasize the need for international tourament play rather than simply games among local pro teams or even one of friendlies against other NT. "Expereince in tournament play is very different". The other key component is to have the same core players "continuity" exposed to elite Asian level torunament play over different months in the year leading up to FIBA Asia. Having different sets of line-ups for every tournaments is not the way to build cohesion as a unit. Remember also as these tournaments normally require back to back games for around a week, you can't bunch these tournaments for say 2 or 3 months straight this will burn out your players, so the key is to have the torneys stretched over say a 9 month period with breaks in between. We also have to factor in the fatigue factor especially for PBA players who play both for their club and National team. We want players peaking in Sept 2013, not running out of gas.

do agree as this has been happening for the last few months which unfortunately is flooding the forums. Same topic being discussed over-and-over again. If they'll just backread, they would see they do not have to post a query. I remember there was one time, the topic said poster was asking about was in the same page and is actually just 2 or 3 posts ahead of him with a big time difference good enough for him to read first instead of just posting without looking.
