maybe? coz he will be the assistant coach of Toroman for Asian games only.

Im hoping Ray Park will be included next year..in Smert Jelas RP team Pilipens:)

so its no longer a rumor? is it going to be like that?

and btw, its smert jellas team pilipini..:D

@nardy: SBP wants Douthit's naturalization by Oct. 16
Hopefully he gets approved. I don't like a repeat of Busan when Asi manhandled the paint and was just simply overworked. He needs a solid help in the post. Greg is a good and promising center but he's still raw. Douthit also gives an intimidating presence, much like Asi. I wish that the Senate will not start politicizing this issue, else we won't have a Douthit in the Asiad.

ty for the correction hahaha! it is Pilipini pala:)

I read somewhere in Teampilipinas.info that Chot will be Toromans Assist Coach for Asian Games only...and even invited Coach Cone but he decline saying Chot is enough..

yup, that info is correct. it also applies for to the 3 PBA reinforcements. They are concentrating first on the short-term which is the Asian Games, what has to be done next would be discussed after Guangzhou. It would be the tournament that will really gauge where we are in our preparations compared to our Asian Neighbors.

Sir until when would the 3 PBA stars play for their mother team? Kelly and Sol struggled and played bad yesterday.

anu ba kasi ginawa ni Greggyboi ky Kelly baka binanga niya ng hus2 ung si Kelly?

Trans:

It is just a joke, so no need to make it a big issue..just for fun lng nothing to do with the current situation of the three PBA players..:p

to be honest I do not know. I have not heard if the meeting being requested by the PBA regarding the guidelines and policy on loaning of players did push-thru. Am also confused, if you ask me both the SBP and SMART as the sponsor of the National Team should have sat down with the PBA a long time ago. I have no idea what is keeping them from doing so.

any update of Marcio Lassiter?

Marcio already said he wants to come back, last September 21 he was advised to undergo two more weeks of rehabilitation for misaligned hips by Los Angeles Lakers physical therapist Judy Seto. So I think he is just wrapping-up his treatment over there at Cali but he told me that he'll continue his therapy here at Manila.

As per Quinito Henson, Lassiter said Seto’s recommendation will mean continuing his therapy until Oct. 1 or five days after the September 27 deadline set by Gilas Assistant Project Director Butch Antonio.

In a follow-up article by Quinito dated October 1, he reported that Marcio Lassiter has agreed to whatever sanction and penalties will come his way from Smart-Gilas for his unauthorized leave of absence. And that Lassiter is scheduled to return to Manila next week after finishing the rehabilitation program supervised by physical therapist Judy Seto in Los Angeles. Gilas Team Manager Frankie Lim said he expects Lassiter to fly in with his US-born Filipino girlfriend Jerlyn Pangilinan and their 19-month-old son Montae Izaiyah.
For leaving without permission, Lassiter is being fined $2,000, deducted from his paycheck over the next six months. He will also be fined for every practice he has missed since Aug. 23. Smart-Gilas official Butch Antonio gave Lassiter a deadline of Sept. 27 to be in Manila, “ready to practice” and said the cost of airline tickets for his return will be deducted from his salary over five months. Additionally, Antonio said Smart-Gilas will not pay for Lassiter’s medical expenses in the US.
But since he has no money, Am assuming he is just awaiting the wire from Manila for his airfare. I do trust Gilas Management and his Agent are on top of the situation.

isn't the management being too harsh with lassiter ?

I already said it to them that the guy was just asking for more understanding. So it's now their call, I understand that they have to maintain discipline and whatever but I still think they should be more flexible.

My guess is internal politics within SBP or maybe not having the right people to talk to PBA due to past differences

Harsh or not if this was pre agreed upon, if there were guidelines regarding such then he'd just have to accept being penalized. So the question is, is there even a written rule for that in their respective contracts?

True. It's not the PBA's responsibility to go to the SBP and clear the air. It's the SBP and SMART-Gilas who need to come out with a blueprint on their plans regarding loaning of players and the role of the PBA in this regard. I'm guessing but gut feel says that they still do not have anything concrete at this point to present to the league. It's much simpler on their part to borrow players when they see it fit rather than document this for finality. This was Eala's responsibility before as former team manager of SMART-Gilas, but I'm also assuming it's still his responsibility as SBP Executive Director. Unless it's now at Frankie Lim's turf. Regardless, the SBP needs to act on this fast, otherwise, they will be looked upon by basketball stakeholders as being no different from the BAP and its mendicant ways. While the comparison may be unfair, the lack of program for the PBA was something amiss from the BAP before.

yeah the sanction is just too harsh for Lassiter. The good thing is he will accept whatever sanction the SBP:p will implement...

I hope he does...but we will never know until it is confirmed if he is indeed back in the Philippines and practicing with the RP team

SBP pegs Douthit naturalization deadline

MANILA—The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has until Oct. 16 to complete the stringent naturalization process of American Marcus Douthit.

SBP executive director Noli Eala said the 10-day time frame would determine if the 6-foot-10 Douthit could join the Smart Gilas national team in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, on Nov. 12 to 27.

The Senate will have a three-week break after the 16th and resume its sessions on Nov. 7.

“By then, it will already be late in the day,” said Eala.

The House of Representatives gave its nod on the naturalization of Douthit, who will need a Philippine passport to apply for accreditation in the Asiad.

“It’s still a long process. We have to get the approval of the Senate not later than Oct. 16,” said Eala.

Once the Senate grants Douthit’s Filipino citizenship, his papers will be forwarded to the Office of the President for signing before applying for an RP passport that will serve as ticket to the continental games.

Meanwhile, Sol Mercado, one of three players loaned by the RP five from the PBA, secured his Philippine passport yesterday.

Eala said Mercado and Chris Lutz, who secured his passport last week, will now apply for accreditation
