This kid called Valanciunas is amazing. He reminds me the young Pau. But Valanciunas is better than Pau at his age.

Pau is a bit different player though - he was always more skilled, but he doesn't have the athleticism and toughness of Jonas. I personally think Jonas will have better NBA career and comparable FIBA performances too in the future

I like Valanciunas and hope that he has a great career, but it's way too early to say that he'll be better than Pau Gasol.I mean he averages 18.8 PPG,9.1 RPG, 3.2 APG and 1.7 BPG in his NBA career. Also, you probably haven't seen young Pau,because it's just ridiculous to state that Jonas is more athletic than him.The dude played at the SF position in the beginning of his career.

I've seen young Pau - he never jumped as high as Jonas and wasn't posterizing people as Jonas does it regularly. He is similar to Valanciunas in speed, but he always relied more on his finesse and skills than physical tools. Watch some highlights of his young days in Barca and you'll understand it:cool:

dude you're way wrong... pau was posterizing david robinson, tim duncan and kevin garnett when he was 21.. and the last two were in their prime..

Your first link wasn't even a poster, but it's OK anyway:cool:
The second one was basically the same, as old Robinson was just beaten by speed...do you even know that POSTER in basketball is?:D Take a look...

first, Jonas doesn't jump very high

2nd, more important---athleticisam is not how high you jump

atleticisam is combination of lot of physical abilitys and gifts, jumping high is just one of factors

it's jumping, secednary jump, explosivnes in jumping, reflexes, speed, agility , cordination, lover strenght, uper body strenght, lateral quickness, foot work, ability to change direction, explosivnes in first step, mobility....

in basketball it's much more impotant how fast, agile, explosive, fluid and cordinate do you move then how high do you jump

in this area freaksly fluid, fast, mobile cordinated and agile athlete for his size pau gasol has big advantage over jonas

in juping they are similar in all areas

in foot work with ball pau beats jonas by far. on defensive post foot work they are close

latheral quicknes by small margine jonas

in mobility similar

only area where jonas is realy over pau is strenght and frame

but unlike pau whe has ege where american bigs are underdeveloped last decade or so, jonas has age in area where americans are dominate to rest of world

so no, jonas is not more athletic then pau

players like pau, dirk, drazen, bird, duncan were way more athletic then people give them credit for. much more athletic

Jonas has his thinghs to buld his future for sure, but projecting biger carer from pau based on jumping higher isn't very smart thing

I agree with some of your points, but not all of them.

Pau is more skilled, has better footwork and is more coordinated (at this point of Jonas' career) - true
Jumping, secondary quick jump - sorry, they are not equal here. Jonas has clear edge here and that is the reason why he finishes so strong in the paint and why Pau has that "soft" label from NBA fans. He gets his shot blocked too many times
Mobility is similar, current Jonas is probably faster in lateral movement.

Like I said, I love Pau - he was always my favourite euro big man over the last decade. But things are changing and new players are entering the scene:cool:

yes, for 5 years jonas will be better then pau for sure:rolleyes:

pohani komarac, Jonas is not D. Howard that's for sure, but to underrate his athleticism is also a mistake, he is athletic, practically phenomenal athlete for European guy. Again, if you saying foot work and quickness is one of conditions, you won't find anything like him since P. Gasol, simple as that.

It's way too soon to compare Jonas' to any player because he still developing and despite being phenomenal this summer he still playing like youngster and far from being polished player (that means - "so much potential" :p). But one thing that is pretty obvious - Jonas is much more of a center than Pau. He's tough and contact is very natural for him. Being pretty skinny right now, he's already very tough. That's what I like - being him a pure center. He slowly adding the jump shot in his game and improving some post moves. With that progression he will be very hard to stop.

This is a stupid label put by people who dont understand nothing about basketball. Pau is a champion, you should look 2009 and 2010 NBA finals.

straight

did i say Jonas is not athletic?

or that he will end as bad player? or that he will end as worse then gasol?

clerly kid is talented. personally i don't see him edging gasol (wich i repeat doesn't mean jonas won't be good player), but you newer know becase despite fact gasol has clearly more overall talent that doesn't mean jonas can't perfect some areas to extra point. and sometimes it's not so much important to have lot of difrent abilitys, but do you have some areas where you are extra good. imo, gasol had those in post skills, passing and mid range face up game

considering foot work, cordination, and other

yes there are some players who are even infron gasol or jonas in some of areas

for sample Radosevic, he is average athlete, but in some areas he is there with top players. mostly thanks to fact he was practicing acrobatic rock and roll before he switched to basketball atage of 15

this is not my subjective opinion, but also prof of his combine results in treviso eurocamp

his one foot vertical is 90 cm, he finised 4th fastest, fastest from bigs in difrent quickness drills where had better results in sprints then some of most athletic euro guard like nemanja nedovic

but reason whille he is average athlete is for sample only 60cm no step vertical, very mehanical moves with ball, bad post foot work

so defently there are no much bigs who roll faster then leon or has ability to stay with even much smaller players on perimeter including jonas who is pretty good at that him self, but not better then leon

imo, that doesn't mean leon is overall more athletic then jonas, not to metnion leon is one tehnicall horor movie

imo, overall, your most hated enemy, enes "kevin love" kanter is more athletic then jonas:p

wow the hype of Lithuanian Marcin Gortat has gone out of control.

Now that's a good contradiction. Koncak trashing Valančiūnas calling him with NBA centers' name who is actually not too far from being among top 10 NBA centers currently...
