yes, douthit should be naturalized. i saw the game against lebanon and his game is not perfect. however, he has a lot of potential even though he's already 30. he's also shown that he can play with the young boys (no pun intended) of gilas.

lebanon was very disappointing, though. lebanon was practically playing against a very incomplete Gilas team but they failed to rout us by a huge margin. we even led by as much as 12 pts. gilas is practically Philippines team A and team B combined. It's not even a national team yet.
I can only wish that the European teams will not clobber them by a huge margin because, after all, they're carrying asia's torch. Good luck to our lebanese brothers. however, to be outscored by a shorter and undermanned team like gilas is no indication of a strong national team. no matter, good luck in wc.

uhm. .maybe. .
at first im not really in favor of naturalizing a 7 footer just to get us to the 2012 london olympics.marcus is a little soft for my standard as center in international game. .oh.until now i want to see an all-filipino(well,some are fil-ams):D. greg, junmar, gian, japeth, jason, rabeh.cousins(if he is a legit) .and ehem. .magi "king"sison. .lets believe and trust them to man the middle for our smart gilas. .

Marcus did ok..i think Vroman has respect for him..What we really need is another Fil-Am big guy who could defend and rebound well at the post to help him out and a lot of reliable outside shooters.Yesterdays game with Japan he was almost a one man wrecking machine.I think he'll be good 3-4 more years...until then should find another big guy to naturalize.

We have some of those Fil-Am big guys.... in the PBA, unfortunately.

remember when we squandered our opportunity to be in the olympics in 2007 by playing without a naturalized player? as i remember correctly, even lebanon was struggling to win against us in 2007, even without a naturalized player. but after lebanon acquired a more serviceable naturalized player in vroman to replace the ageing vogel, they, as a national team, have considerably improved. it doesnt matter if lebanon was 2nd place in fiba 07 and only 4th in fiba 09. to me, lebanon 09 team was much stronger than the lebanon team which struggled to win against our local PBA players in 07. moral of the story? it helps to naturalize an assassin.
although gilas wil never be as talented as the PBA team of 2007, they're on the right track by naturalizing douthit. we may not achieve our goals with only gilas at the helm, but without much imagination, it is giving us an idea of how strong we will become if PBA finally helps us again in this cause. PBA + SBP + Gilas veterans + naturalized player= the right formula for success.

i'll say yes because it's too late to bring anyone else.

Douthit isn't as athletic as Giles, isn't as monstrous as Sampson, and isn't as passionate as Vučićević... but he brings some stability to the paint. based on the Jones Cup and the Manila Invitational, the only thing he's better at than all 3 previous candidates is his passing ability. just give him a PF who'll help him in the paint and more consistent outside shooters, he'll be fine.

I'll take him anytime than Giles or Sampson. He may not that be athletic as those 2 guys but atleast we know he's going to play at his best anytime. So that's a YES for me.

Agree on this one. He's not that athletic BUT reliable and serviceable. And he's not a headcase like Giles and Sampson.

Honestly i pitty him , nothing else.

The problem with some of you guys , is that you keep saying that this (Gilas) is not the best Filipino team you can have ! so can you tell me what is your best team?

Your PBA used to participate and never reached more than Quarter Finals ! you said once Danny Seigle is the bst player in Asia so do you have another hidden player who is the best in the world ?

If i got it right , Smart Gilas will be competing on the Olympics spot next year so basically it's your NT , it's your future , so it's not good for Gilas or for your basketball to keep this thing going.

And last thing , yesterday our bench who won over your Smart Gilas (No Freije , Khatib and Fahed + the other starters played 1/4 or 1/2 the game)
So chill and your team have a lot of catching up ;)

good post :D

it could have been better though if this was posted in the sbp developmental pool thread.

are we closing our doors on other candidates? there could be candidates who won't get signed or are released by nba teams.

pathetic... look who's talking... we know there are some pinoys who are like that here... but try to ask yourself and some oh wait most of your lebanese friends (with the exception of khalid80 who is the most non bias lebanese forumer here), aren't we also like that? aren't you guys the one who also kept on talking and talking and bragging that lebanon is the best and then when they're defeated, you guys put tons of excuses... like oh because the referees ruined it or you didn't have a complete team or what else you forgot to bring the magic ball or your players forgot to wear their magic shoes... i remember when iran beat you, you still continued to say that you are still better than them, etc... you know kid i can understand your point but when you too are the ones doing it, its pathetic, its useless... if khalid80 posted that i dont see a problem because like what ive said he's the most non bias lebanese forumer here. u know try to remind yourself and your friends first before u can come here and educate us kiddo...

with regards to our current team, this is the best alternative team we can come up because of the continued non committal of our pro league. if the 2007 and 2009 team only had the benefit of long training with a naturalized player and a foreign coach, the result would have been different...

no offense meant kiddo...

Me, HELL YEAH! He's a great guy. If his playing days are over, I hoped that SBP will hire him as a big man's coach.
