Sadly, the PBA of today is no place for aspiring businesses that are not in the level of SMC or MPIC, as far as parading a winning team or teams that would go the distance every conference, is concerned. No other choice but to act as accomplices to the schemes of those at the top just to have some semblance of success (financial, that is).

    • We really have a different definition of young, no. I was listening to Beau, Dario, and Boom analyze Phoenix and compared them to NorthPort. Beau called them young teams.

Here's the thing. Phoenix's youngest player is Ricci Rivero, who turns 26 in May, and NorthPort's youngest is John Amores, who turns 25 in June.

In contrast, look at OKC. Of their rotation guys, only Gordon Hayward is above 30. Of their core of SGA, Chet, Jalen Williams, Dort, and Giddey, SGA's the oldest at 25, and J-Dub, Chet, and Giddey are 22 and under. Orlando has a similar situation with Banchero, Wendell Carter Jr., Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs. That's what a young team looks like, not when you have numerous core pieces that are 27 and above, with the youngest player below 25.

This is not the prime Junemar desth 5 era where SMB was a cut above the rest. June mar himself and the team is not as dominant as before. Any team can defeat another if they really want to. This is how you build a fan base. Undortunately we all know the reason why TF is winning now. It is because Converge is on the way to getting the top pick. Next season we know TF, BW and Northport will be back to their losing ways.

Their kryptonite right now is outside shooting centers. This is why TF almost defeated them. Time and again JF left Isaac Go open and paid for it. I still think they need a tall SF/PF type. They use either Mo or Trollano as PF. Neither is a perfect fit. But good enough for PBA level competitiom.
I think SMB are still a cut above the rest in an All-Filipino competition. They still have June Mar, but they have another go-to guy in CJ Perez, and a lot of firepower. With that kind of firepower, they don't have to think about much else in an All-Filipino context, even perimeter defense and positional versatility or their lack thereof.

To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
          1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Another good game from the PBA. When teams are serious PBA games are clearly the best in the country. Years of farm teams and at times collusion between sister teams have erroded the fan base. But its talent is still miles ahead. Its also a pity, now there is actually parity in the league. TF defeated GSM and almost defeated SMB.

Not sure. Maybe they lack good bigs? Perk is their only good big IRC and he is undersized.

Cone said that Malonzo had a calf or Achilles issue. Hope it's just a pulled calf muscle, which needs a couple days of rest.

At least it looks like the injury is not in the knee. Yeah, hope it's just a calf injury & nothing serious.
