A flurry of transfers have been announced at the end of this season.

Among them, soph Azurà Stevens, Duke's leading scorer and rebounder and freshman Angela Salvadores from Spain and one of the top european junior players are leaving the program. Duke has heavily recruited in the past years but results have been far below expectations. Blue Devils have missed NCAA tournament this season. Stevens destination is unknown, Salvadores is expected to start her pro career.

Former McDonald's All-American Jatarie White, a junior, has left South Carolina, after she failed to live up to expectations in college.

Other two ex HS stars Mikayla Venson and Sydney Umeri left Virginia, with Umeri who got her grad with one year of eligibility remaining.

Taja Cole, another highly recruited freshman, left Louisville.

UConn's Breanna Stewart wins the Wade Trophy for the second time and joins teammates Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson in WBCA All-American team. Jefferson was also named defensive PoY.

Stewart and her head coach Geno Auriemma also honored by AP.

UConn freshman Katie Lou Samuelson (broken foot) won't play the final with Syracuse. She had been a regular starter in all tournament's games.

Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson became the first college players to win four championships and together scored yesterday more points than the entire Syracuse team. Stewart added another award being named the finals MVP. It wil be interesting to see if RS-Jr Morgan Tuck, who is age-eligible for WNBA draft, decides to stay or enter the pro draft. Tuck might be a high pick, after closing an outstanding season at UConn.

Interestingly, also Div. II and III champs, Lubbock Christian and Thomas More capped their season undefeated, the third time the three NCAA champions finish with a perfect record.

Newly crowned champ Morgan Tuck has decided to enter WNBA draft, with one year eligibility remaining at UConn. She's expected to be a top-five pick.
Another player who left early, Jewell Loyd was picked #1 in the 2015 draft. This year also Aerial Powers declared for the draft and will skip her senior season at Michigan State.

Probably the most decorated player in college history, Breanna Stewart also earned the national PoY Wooden Award.

Bahamas born Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) won the men's award.

Youngest Ogwumike sisters, Erica and Olivia, transferring from Pepperdine to Rice. Just a freshman, Erica led Pepperdine in scoring, followed by her sister Olivia, a soph.

Illinois leading scorer Chatrice White plans to transfer. White has just completed her second NCAA season and won gold at the 2015 U19WC.

Former Duke leading scorer and rebounder Azurà Stevens heading to UConn. She probably will have to sit out next season.

National leading scorer Jasmine Nwajei transferred from Wagner to Syracuse. Nwajei will sit out one year and play her final season in 2017-18.

For University of Kentucky it has been a players exodus this season, last one is fw Batouly Camara who has transferred to UConn. Camara completed her freshman season and will sit out next year as per NCAA transfe rules. She follows other five who left, additionally two HS players, Lindsey Corsaro and Madison Treece decommited as future Wildcats.

RIP Pat Summit. Another legend gone too soon. Her slow demise leading to hospice care was incredibly heartbreaking.

Much less known as a player, Pat Summit (née Head) was someone who rehabbed from a torn ACL on her own, and then co-captained the first US NT in Olympic history in 1976.

RIP

Tennessee next season risks to be again a nightmare, same as last one. Andraya Carter, a 2015 graduate will forego her final playing eligibility year to recover from multiple injuries, while rising soph Tea Cooper injured her knee and is lost for the season. Both are guards, and Volunteers roster is down to 9 players.

2016-17 season is about to start without a clear favorite, with UConn and Notre Dame getting the most votes in various national rankings. Other top choices are Baylor, South Carolina and Maryland/Louisville.

As for the most talented players, a Top 25 survey has been delivered by ESPN. Juniors dominate the top three positions, led by A'ja Wilson (South Carolina), who is the top choice by AP as well, followed by Brianna Turner (Notre Dame) and Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio State).

Concerning the top freshmen, Baylor has two (ESPN) Top-10 2016 recruits, the #1 Lauren Cox and #8 Natalie Chou, Texas has #2 Joyner Holmes and #6 Alecia Sutton, UConn #3 Crystal Dangerfield (back from a long stop), Oregon #4 Sabrina Ionescu, Notre Dame #5 Erin Boley, Maryland #7 Destiny Slocum, Duke #9 Leaonna Odum and Ohio State #20 Tori McCoy.

Several high-ranked teams played in yesterday's non-conference games.

UConn won a close contest with Florida State, confirming to be a more "average" team than in the past seasons, while big soph center Kalani Brown led Baylor over UCLA with 25 pts, 19 reb an 6 assists. UConn will next host Baylor as the non-favorite team.

South Carolina saw action for the first time overcoming Ohio State thanks to a strong combined effort of two transfers, Kaela Davis (37 pts, 10 reb) and Allisha Gray (24). Getting early in foul trouble, big A'ja Wilson had a night to forget for Gamecocks.

Winning over Baylor after a strong Q4, UConn should get back to the first place in the national polls. Great game of diminutive freshman guard Crystal Dangerfield, who led her team with 19 pts and 5 assists. Huskies took care of Lady Bears bigs, as All-Am candidate Nina Davis and top freshman Lauren Cox were held scoreless.

Soph transfer guard Recee Caldwell scored a career-high 38 pts for Texas Tech in a losing effort vs Texas A&M.
